12 Angry Men (Sidney Lumet)
Nominated Best Picture
Solonor's Pick!
Based on the play by Reginald Rose, almost the entire movie is set in a single room--a cramped, hot jury deliberations room, where 12 men are set to decide the fate of a young accused murderer. At first, it seems as if it's an open-and-shut case, but one juror (Henry Fonda) refuses to make the vote unanimous without some discussion. As they talk, the story quickly becomes a study of the jurors' complex personalities, preconceptions, backgrounds and interactions. And, as we discover more and more about the details of the case, we learn what "beyond the shadow of a doubt" really means. The jurors include such stars as Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley, E.G. Marshall, Jack Warden, Martin Balsam and Jack Klugman.
