Sunday morning rant

This long, but stunning, rant by Mamacita drives home an excellent point. We're testing kids to death and taking all creativity and fun out of school (thus the perceived need for a Rescuing Recess campaign).

Schools spend half their allotted time reviewing for the state's standardized test (in ours it's the dreaded FCAT), and the results of said test not only determine who graduates but also which schools get the money. Except it's totally backwards! The assumption is that all schools are equal. Thus, if one school does worse than another, it's not because they don't have resources. It's because they suck. Close 'em down! And the rich schools get richer, and the poor schools get poorer.

I guess the kids are getting life lessons after all.

God forbid they actually teach them something other than the test, you know...

"No Child Left Behind." Another in a series of wonders provided by He Who Shall Be Known As Dubbya.

If you don't see a way to enter a comment, it's not because I don't love you. It's because they have been set to auto-close after 5 days.

Thank you, comment spammers. Thank you to hell.
