Merry Fellows Not So Merry
Old Forest - Inconsistency is the only consistent quality of the 2003 Merry Fellows, it seems. Just a week after breaking out of their 8-game losing streak with a 4-game winning streak, the team is back into an 0-for-9 slump. Perhaps that is why team manager, Tom Bombadil, has decided to clean house, sending five of his starting major leaguers down to the minors. And not just to the minors - to the single-A North Mordor Flying Dragons.
"The only thing that saved starter Boriam Celebrin (2-3, 6.35 ERA) was his $3 million contract," said MESN analyst Stan Cemendur. "With all the teams floating in cash, they could not take the chance of putting Celebrin on waivers. He'd be snapped up quick."
Early in the season, Old Forest took the road that lead to the lowest payroll in the league. Many of the main starters this season were under age 21. Gone from the lineup are catcher Halildur Gwaimir (.185, 4 HR, 8 RBI), age 19, left fielder Sortai Guril (.224, 2 HR, 8 RBI), age 19, shortstop Rognash Kidneyslammer (.138, 1 HR, 4 RBI), age 20, right fielder Radaidur Morauden (.179, 1 HR, 2 RBI), age 29, and starting pitcher Florus Earuldor (0-3, 7.12 ERA), age 21. It is hoped that by bringing these young players back up through the farm system, the Merry Fellows will have a sold team in future years.
