Shire Defeats Mordor, 10-9
BAG END - Before a sell-out crowd of 45,000 the Shire Conference All-Stars beat the Mordor squad in the first SGCBL All-Star Game. As with most such exhibitions, it wasn't a pitching contest, as the final score was 10-9. Each team had 12 hits. Both starters had rocky outings, as Wilderland's Dalo Bloodkiller walked 7 in just 2 innings, and Misty Mountain's Elrilmer Elrialwyn walked 4 and gave up 3 hits in just 2.1 innings of work.
The scoring started early, as Rivendell outfielder and league-leading hitter Thurzava Sang sent a shot down the left field line for a solo homer in the bottom of the 1st. In the top of the 2nd, Mordor took the lead when Bloodkiller first walked Mordor's Goldie Lomebrildur with the bases loaded, then did it again with Dunharrow's Mugor Ghoulslobberer at the plate. Mordor added another run in the 3rd when Dagorlad's Tavlla Legilmaldor grounded out to first, scoring Gandaudur Eowoldur of Isengard. Grimli Goramir brought the Shire to within 1 with a homer to left in the bottom of the 3rd.
In the top of the 4th, Lomebrildur singled to center, stole second, and scored on a Ghoulsloberrer hit, with a headfirst slide into home, barely beating the throw from Bree centerfielder, Ralin Rockbinder. Ghoulslobberer later scored on a Legilmaldor hit, making it 5-2 Mordor. Shire brought the score back to 5-4 in the bottom of the inning, when Rockbinder scored on a Goramir single, and Sang tagged up and trotted home on a long flyball out by Bag End's Arweogast Belaraviel.
In the 5th inning, Lomebrildur sent a shot deep into the right field stands for a 2-run homer. In the bottom of that inning, Shire shortstop Kobur Hammermaker of Lonely Mountain scrambled home, beating a throw from Lomebrildur, when Rockbinder sent a single to center.
Lake Town Archers catcher, Thuralia Nilad, tied up the score in the bottom of the 6th with a 2-run homer to left off Dagorlad's Joker Fistslammer. To which Lomebrildur responded in the top of the 8th with a run, scoring on a hit by Eowoldur.
Finally, the Shire team went ahead to stay in the bottom of the 7th. Facing Valinor's Beama Belil-Gariand, Grimli Goramir singled to left and was lifted for pinch runner Sean Radigast of Bywater. Radigast went to second on a single by Wilderland's Isilborn Imrilron. Belil-Gariand walked Lake Town's Vishnak Spearpunisher to load the bases with 1 out, giving way to team mate Iseagast Imream on the mound. Imream walked pinch hitter Kogar Facedragger of Lonely Mountain, scoring Radigast from third and was replaced by Dol Guldur's Faraborn Elrum. Elrum was greeted by home town hero Tesin Trollcutter of Bag End with a double to deep right field. Imrilron and Spearpunisher scored, making it 10-8. Facedragger was gunned down at home with a fine throw by Numenor's Fruron Elvand. Mordor added a run in the 8th with a sac fly off the bat of Gondor's Paurk Goblinshaker, scoring Seathor Radithor of Dunharrow, but that was it. The final score of the game was 10-9, Shire.
The winning pitcher was Dejahor Anuwen of Rivendell. The loser was Belil-Gariand. Myrbis Elvoldur of Carrock earned a save. The Player of the Game was Grimli Goramir of Cirith Ungol, who went 3-for-5 with a homer and 2 RBI.
