OLD FOREST - While playing under .500 ball, the Merry Fellows are challenging for the division. The team is only two games out of first and, with a successful week, could be reigning at the top of their division. "We haven't had a week where we've all put it together," owner Tom Bombadil said. "Not all hitters always hit, even if they'd better."
While optimistic, their competition will not be easy in the coming week. They will be playing the Rangers, Wargs, and Archers. These three teams presently have a combined record of 69-60.
Grolas Unleashed
Old Forest fans are still astounded by Haleogrin Grolas's offensive output this past week. Grolas, who was acquired from Bywater, hit 7 homeruns in his past 7 games with 15 RBI, hitting a sweet .450 during the week. He also had 3 homeruns and 5 RBI in three games against his former team.
"I loved Bywater," Grolas said. "I wanted to retire there. I guess I'll have to settle for leaving homerun balls all over their outfield."
Grolas is batting .297 with 13 homeruns this season.
Aragornson Mystery Unravelled
Several weeks ago, this paper published a request to uncover the origins of young power hitter Eldarion Aragornson. After weeks with little success, the truth was discovered three days ago.
Aragornson is in fact royalty - the son of the great Aragorn, destroyer of Sauron and liberator of Middle Earth. The long-lived prince left his home more than a year ago with hopes to play in the major leagues, but has recently been demoted back to AA.
"I didn't want people to know," Aragornson said. "I don't want to be treated differently. I'm sure that's what will happen now."
The mystery was unravelled when a scribe from his father's kingdom reached the Old Forest Gazette looking for the wayward youth. Apparently Aragornson had left his home without his father's approval, and has in fact been told to return home.
"For the time being I'm not going anywhere," he said in response. "I have a good home with Mr. Bombadil, and frankly I think it's a great organization here. I will play until they drag me off the field, and even then I will fight."
Aragornson and the AA Ent Forest Antelopes play the Long Lake Waves this week.
