Digging to the Bottom

MORIA - In what was to be the coming out party of the Moria Miners in this 2004 season, the team has instead found themselves in some familar territory--the bottom of the mineshaft--with a 24th in the league power ranking and a 41-59 record, last in the dwarf division, last in the Shire conference (tied with Cirith Ungol and Old Forest) and last in the League. It was projected to be a new and improved Moria, with some additions from free agency and some much needed pitching, to contend for at least a wildcard or even a division title. Now, a .500 season will be considered a success. Team ownership has expressed deep disappointment in what was a spending frenzy at the beginning of the year. "We are not getting the bang for our buck," said team president Porin Woodenplate. "Still, we are not going to abandon the ship just yet."
"We need to get some wins on our home turf," expressed Glognar Foebinder, one of the few contributers this season with a .323 batting average and 57 RBIs. "We must stop teams from walking in and out of here with wins."
That seems to be the consensus of the players and coaches. "Taking care of business at home is a top priority," said left fielder Burt Axetorturer. "We talk about fan support over and over. I think we need to give them something to show interest first."
