Goramir and Ghoulslobberer Win Player of the Week award
MIDDLE EARTH - The Shire Conference Player of the Week award goes to Grimli Goramir, He had an on base percentage of .636 and hit .529, while driving in 7 runs. The Player of the Week award in the Mordor Conference goes to Dunharrow's Mugor Ghoulslobberer this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .667 and hit .529, while driving in 6 runs. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well!
Fistslammer Breaks Mordor Strikeout Record
GONDOR - At 7-10, Dagorlad's Ligor "Joker" Fistslammer may not be having a stellar year, but on August 23, he became the new season strikeout king when he recorded K number 249, breaking last season's record of 248, held by Misty Mountain's Elrilmer Elriawyn. Fistslammer wound up with 12 strikeouts against only 2 walks in the game, leaving him with 255 for the season thus far. The League record is currently 271, held by Boriam Celebrin of Old Forest.
Ulor Témir quiets Grey Havens bats with shutout
GREY HAVENS - Good things can happen when you throw strikes. And Ulor Témir did so August 19, in a 1-hit shutout against Grey Havens. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Témir (8-6) fanned 6 and walked 4, throwing 106 pitches. Dol Guldur's centerfielder Bill Rollins stroked 4 hits in 5 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Témir. The final score of the game was 1-0.
Injury News
MORDOR - Clifton Haglund (5-10, 5.17 ERA) was stunned by a line drive to the head in a game against Valinor on August 19. He has a concussion and will miss at least 1-2 weeks.
MIRKWOOD - Second baseman Gufur Goblinarm was injured while throwing a ball in a game on August 21. He is experiencing tightness in his elbow, severe enough to put him out of action for at least 1-2 weeks.
BREE - Cheese catcher Boli Armormaker was injured in the bottom of the 6th inning of a game against Lake Town. With runners at 1st and 2nd and nobody out, Tigra Tadrielad tried a sac bunt. Armormaker pounced on the ball quickly and threw out Tadrielad, but he came up with an elbow injury. He is out for about 1-2 weeks.
LAKE TOWN - Frunak Devilgobbler was injured while pitching. Nine pitches into the August 23 start against Bree, Devilgobbler complained of severe shoulder pains and had to leave the game. It appears he has a strained rotator cuff muscle and will be out of the rotation for about 4 weeks.
CARROCK - Friagol Fariamli, outfielder for the Bears, was injured while making a catch on August 25. He dove for a ball hit by Kogar Facedragger into short right field and bruised his ribs. He will be OK in about 1-2 weeks.
