WILDERLAND CLINCHES PLAYOFF SPOT!
SILVAN - With their 5-1 defeat of the Rangers at Silvan on September 11, the 2003 League Champion Wilderland Wargs became the first team to secure a 2004 playoff spot, winning the Shire Conference Hobbit Division in a runaway. After a slow start, Wilderland's bats pummelled opposing pitchers into submission. Every member of the starting lineup has at least 18 homers this season, and with 258 team HR, they are set to eclipse last year's record of 272.
Nilad and Galithrandir win Player of the Week award
MIDDLE EARTH - The Player of the Week award in the Shire Conference goes to Lake Town's Thuralia Nilad this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Nilad helped his team with an average of .636 and one RBI in 22 at bats. The Player of the Week award in the Mordor Conference goes to Grey Havens' Sarkla Galithrandir this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 1 HR and 8 RBI.
Fistslammer breakes strikeout record
DAGORLAD - Ligor Fistslammer is called "The Joker" by his team, but when he struck out his 272nd batter on September 9, he was all business. Fistlammer (9-11, 4.40 ERA) has had full command of his killer fastball this year, despite his poor record. Hitters have been set down at a rate of around 14 per 9 innings pitched all season.
Rockbinder sets new Shire stolen base record
BREE - On September 12, centerfielder Ralin Rockbinder tied, then broke, teammate Isseen Elrarar's Shire Conference record for most stolen bases in a season with a pair of thefts in a game against Moria. In the bottom of the 5th, he took second off pitcher Gollagast Filmamir, then in the 7th he stole off Silzava Gliondir.
