MISTY MTN - As the season moves into its final two weeks, the Hops had some good fortune this week, finding a way to open their slim lead in the Orc Division from one to two games. They did this by going 3-2 for the week, while the rest of the division had identical 2-3 records. With ace pitcher Elrilmer "The Witch King" Elriawyn out with a ruptured elbow ligament for the next two weeks--he's scheduled to return for the playoffs--the Hops are doing everything they can to maintain their composure under pressure, and it seems to be working.

The hitting of Denar "Boomer" Axecutter is a case in point: voted Player of the Week in the Mordor Conference, he performed admirably under pressure. Other key players in recent play who have contributed mightily are aging third baseman Biadoc "Doc" Belóndil (10 for 27 over the last nine games, .370, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Celiahil "Plowman" Celeoman (2-1 in his last three starts, for a 2.95 ERA in 21.1 IP), and utility outfielder Gwudriel "Gangrene" Greagrin, (5-16 over his last five games, for .313 and 2 RBI).

Such character, especially from Belóndil, who has already been told he won't be returning next season, is part of the reason why the team is finding ways to win. The next seven days promise to be difficult, with games every single day before the scattered play at the beginning of October. Make sure you show up for the final games at The Gap of Rohan Park early, as the games are sure to be intense!
