Buckland Party Celebrates 2004 Fairies

BUCKLAND - Team members and management gathered at Brandy Hall Sunday in celebration of their stunning 2004 season. "We've had a very good year," remarked team manager Brandywine Bucktook over a pint of home brew. "The entire team really pulled together, considering we've just moved from Lonely Mountain a year ago. It was a difficult adjustment, but we made it to the number 2 spot in the League, nonetheless."

Despite a string of controversies early in the season, including rumors of witchcraft and strained Orc-Hobbit relations, Bucklebury went on to conquer the Shire Conference and battled Numenor for the League trophy. Said Bucktook, "We were disappointed at not having won the championships, of course, but we've had plenty of victories to cheer about. No one can call us The Losers, anymore!"

The Fairies took time to honor Kogar "Cap" Facedragger (RF), who was awarded the Shire Conference Aragorn MVP, as well as the Sam Gamgee Batter and Legolas Fielder Awards. When asked about his success, Cap simply shrugged and said, "It's great fun, this baseball thing. Almost as good as ripping the neck of some guy in battle. Though sometimes, I miss the screaming."

The Fairies invited players and management from neighboring teams in Bree, Bywater, and Old Forest, but Bran Bucktook reports none showed. "Rumor has it Sir Grumpus is still a bit sore over the searing defeat Bucklebury handed his team in the playoffs, and those in Old Forest have actually forgotten they play baseball. Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to what happened with Bywater."

The team ended their celebration with a fireworks display. Management is happy to report that no party guests were devoured.
