Rohan's Badgerpoker out for full season
ROHAN - Rohan's centerfielder Ciurk Badgerpoker suffered a season ending injury on July 24 when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a broken foot which will require surgery. His season numbers are: .325 AVG, 110 hits, 25 doubles, 3 triples and 18 homeruns, along with 61 RBI and 59 runs scored. He's 5th in the Mordor Conference in batting and was on the All-Star team.
Eärindel and Legindil win Player of the Week award
MIDDLE EARTH - Lake Town's rightfielder Denamir Eärindel had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Shire Conference Player of the Week. He hit .640 with 12 RBI and slugged 1.160 in 25 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! It's the 4th time that the Mordor Conference Player of the Week award goes to Dunharrow's first baseman Tavoja Legindil. Legindil helped his team with an average of .480 and 15 RBI in 25 at bats. Legindil has hit 13 taters this year while batting .261. He adds 9 doubles, along with 38 runs scored.
Gothor Gollind ropes four hits, completes cycle
LAKE TOWN - Lake Town's leftfielder Gothor Gollind accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Bree on July 24, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .277! A pitch from Zuthor Toviel in the 2nd inning left his bat for a RBI triple. It tied the ballgame at 2. A single in the 3rd off Zuthor Toviel accounted for his 2nd hit. A pitch from Dejatok Belebrildur in the 5th inning left his bat for a two-run double. A 394 foot drive to right field marked his 4th hit, a solo homerun off Dejatok Belebrildur in the 7th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Gothor scored one run, and he collected 5 RBI as well! His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .277. He becomes the 12th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 7/6/2006, Siloja Glebrildur was the last player to hit for the cycle.
Mirkwood's Gamialf severely injured
MIRKWOOD - Mirkwood is without its right-hander Geadriel Gamialf for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Randy Gustafson in a game against Carrock on July 18. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Gamialf was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Bicep Muscle. In 21 starts this year Geadriel struck out 79 batters in 129 innings of work. His ERA is 3.98, his record 9-5. He has 2 complete games and one shutout.
Fistslammer gets 1,000th strikeout
OLD FOREST - Joker Fistslammer became just the second pitcher in league history to notch 1,000 K's when he fanned Lumtina Elväwen in a game against Moria on July 18. It was Ligor's 6th strikeout of a game that saw him fan 10 for yet another time in his career. Fistslammer joins Merry Fellow teammate Boriam Celebrin in this exclusive club.
