Rohan Busy Before Trade Deadline

Rohan
ROHAN - The RoughRiders, trying to keep pace with division rival Numenor, have entered into several trades right before the July 31 deadline. Team officials announced deals with Bree and Bywater and a potential swap with Carrock in the final days before the trading blackout.

In a deal with Bree, Rohan gives up its 3rd round pick in the 2007 Amateur Draft for first baseman Vatok "The Wraith" Thräthien. Thräthien, 35, has been with the Cheese since the beginning. He is a consistent .290 hitter with speed, and he won the Legolas Fielder Award at first in 2004. Vatok was a starter for Bree for 2 seasons, including spending a lot of time playing left field. Recently, he has been used in reserve, and the team expects to use power hitting Gandaugrin Gamaiborn next season when he returns from his injury.

To shore up the bullpen, the RoughRiders dealt with Bywater, acquiring relief pitcher Gamam Eowálad. Eowálad, 34, returns to Rohan where he was the 18th round draft choice of the Palantir Stones in 2003. He spent 3 seasons with Palantir/Rohan, before being signed to a 1-year/$1 million contract by the Bounders this season. In exchange, Rohan gives up left-handed pitcher Vral Spikekiller, 36, who has been bouncing between the bullpen and the starting rotation for Rohan since 2003.

There is also a trade rumored to be in the works with Carrock to get the Bears' setup man, Sheamer Sareoden. Sareoden, 26, will give the RoughRiders an excellent lead into closer Hilin Goldarm's territory.
