MIRKWOOD - The Marauders have done it! They won the Return of The King Series against a formidable Rohan team. Mirkwood had been counted out for several reasons during the year, one being that no Conference winner had ever won back to back championships, and since the Shire Conference won last season it was Mordor's turn. Additionally with the under performance of the team this year, (-14 pyt. record), no one expected them to make it past Old Forest, much less Lake Town.

Manager Thranduil Elvenking is not only extremely happy but he is also very relieved. He was under pressure all year from the Marauder Owner Cableman who, according to Elvenking continually pulled rank to insist things be run a certain way. Elvenking was quoted after the victory celebration at a local pub, "Winning the Championship again this year is not only an historic event, but one which I feel vindicates me and should end all the speculation of my being replaced. In fact, Mr. Cableman and I have agreed that he will butt out and let me run the team this next season without interference."

He continued by talking about each of his players whom he praised for their effort and perseverance. Of note mentioned was this season's acquisition Starting Pitcher Grikak 'Treehugger' Dryadpoker who did well for the Marauders during the season but who, during the RoTK Series, took on the renowned Rohan Starting Pitcher Legeron Iseomer and in 2 games was able to come away with wins.

He also mentioned the surprising newcomer Starting Pitcher Halin 'Hail Stone' Goblinfist who went 21-9 this year with a 2.63 ERA. He is only the second Marauder to have a 20 win season, last year Starting Pitcher Gwelf 'Guns' Goriborn went 21-8. This year Goriborn had a very respectable 17-7 season with a nice ERA of 2.90. This season Starting Pitcher Denaumir 'Iceball' Deneadur struggled a little with a 12-10 record, although he performed well in the postseason and had a record 20 K's in a single game.

This Year the Marauders also had several hitters end the season hitting above .300.
Catcher Curt 'The Bat' Ballscarer .319
Second Baseman Mohair 'Mo' Catsquisher .315
First Baseman Galaigast 'The Chef' Faromli .310, used as a DH mostly this season.
Shortstop Thauthor 'Hands' Smeand .308
Right Fielder Denaigol 'Hitman' Denaihir .303

Additionally of note:
Left Fielder Minto 'The Admiral' Gamwich had 70 stolen bases on the season.

Two of the core relievers for the Marauders this year were Reliever Wulo 'Wookie' Wolfdragger and Reliever Gebur 'The Chiseler' Chiselmaker who both performed very well this season. In a surprise move Elvenking's first order of business was to trade both to clear some salary and to make room for a couple of rookie prospects currently on the Taur e-Ndaedelos Woods AAA Team, Reliever Tigtai Tämir and Reliever Lonak Fleshkiller.

The Marauders plan to take a couple of days off to let the Ale wearoff and then they are expected to show up for practice as usual again.
