Nosegobbler hitting streak stopped at 34
RIVENDELL - Bywater shortstop, Neegar Nosegobbler's record-breaking hitting streak finally came to an end on April 16 at Rivendell. Royals pitchers finally found the secret to getting the young uruk-hai out, coaxing him into an outfield fly in the 1st and 7th innings and a grounder to third in the 9th. He drew a base on balls in the 4th. Nosegobbler's streak was pieced together from 15 games this season and the 19 game streak he wound up with in 2006.
Orithil and Grailas win Player of the Week award
MIDDLE EARTH - The Shire Conference's best player of the week was Lake Town's Gwomer Grailas, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Grailas was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.10. Along the way he struck out 15 in 16.1 innings. A complete game added to his brilliant performance. Opposing players hit .191 against Gwomer this season. While posting an ERA of 1.71 he went 4-0 in 4 starts, fanning 27 and walking 4 hitters. He's 3rd in the Shire Conference in ERA and 1st in wins! The Mordor Conference Player of the Week award goes to Olorin *Orithil, Isengard's starting centerfielder. Olorin pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .429 with 5 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.000. His season numbers are: .344 AVG, 22 hits, 3 doubles, no triples and 6 homeruns, along with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Minas Morgul's Myrtai Elvywyn ropes five hits
NUMENOR - Minas Morgul's first baseman Myrtai Elvywyn accomplished a difficult feat in a 10-3 win over Numenor on April 17, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .261! His 1st hit, off Gollogrin Gaum in the 1st inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. In the 6th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Gollogrin Gaum. He had singles in the 3rd , in the 7th and in the 9th . Myrtai scored 4 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .240. Minas Morgul scored 10 runs on 11 hits.
Legan Isauhir shuts out Dol Guldur on 2 hits
DEAD MARSHES - It was a great day for Dead Marshes' right-hander Legan Isauhir. The 27-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Dol Guldur on April 15. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Isauhir (1-0) struck out an astounding 14 and walked 2, throwing 70 of 111 pitches for strikes. Sordor Glóthien provided Dead Marshes with the offense Isauhir needed as he finished with 5 hits in 5 AB, hitting a homerun, scoring FOUR times and driving in 2 runs. Dead Marshes improved its record to 8-5, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits.
Legeron Iseomer (ROH) will miss 5 weeks
ROHAN - When it rains, it pours. Rohan's ace Legeron Iseomer will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Isengard on April 15 where he left the field in the 3rd inning. Bone Chips Elbow was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .200 against Legeron this season. While posting an ERA of 2.53 he went 1-2 in 4 starts, fanning 21 and walking 1 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout.
