Career Over for Dragons Closer!
DOL GULDUR - In the middle of his best season yet, Mogdush Ghoulslobberer, the closer for the Dol Guldur Dragons, was felled by a torn rotator cuff in a 16-inning game at Isengard. With the pitching staff depleted, Ghoulslobberer valiantly tried to pitch far longer than he usually does in his role as the Dragons stopper. He entered the game in the 11th and threw 85 pitches before grabbing his arm in pain and leaving the game. Mogdush was the 26th pick of the Dragons in 2003 and spent that season at the AAA Greenleaves Giants. In 2004 he joined the major league club, pitching in 90 games of relief. After the trade that sent Faraborn Elrum to the Merry Fellows in 2005, Ghoulslobberer took over the role as closer, compiling 67 saves in 176 appearances. His career record was 8-26 with 70 saves and a 4.54 ERA. This season, he was 1-5 with 17 saves and a 2.57 ERA, 49 strikeouts and only 8 walks.
Boraulf and Bugbearripper receive Pitcher of the Month award
MIDDLE EARTH - It's the 4th time that the Shire Conference Pitcher of the Month award goes to Rivendell's pitcher Boreathor Boraulf. He had an ERA of just 2.57 in 42 innings of work in which he struck out 35 hitters. His record in June is 5-0. Opposing players hit .210 against Boreathor this season. While posting an ERA of 2.76 he went 11-4 in 20 starts, fanning 138 and walking 25 hitters. He has 4 complete games and one shutout. He's 3rd in the Shire Conference in ERA and 1st in wins! Misty Mountain's pitcher Eralak Bugbearripper is the Mordor Conference winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in June. He went 5-0 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 1.14. He struck out 48 in 47.1 innings. His ERA of 3.25 helped him to a 10-4 record this year. He struck out 120 and walked 58 in 116.1 innings. He's 3rd in the Mordor Conference in wins!
Batter of the Month award winners announced
MIDDLE EARTH - The Shire Conference Batter of the Month award goes to Loopy *Squishmasher, Rivendell's starting third baseman. He had an on base percentage of .491 and hit .421, while driving in 39 runs. He has hit 24 homeruns while batting .384 this season. His 106 hits and 46 walks add up to a .472 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the Shire Conference in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 6th in RBI! Misty Mountain's catcher Bagwurz Bloodaxe had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Mordor Conference Batter of the Month. Bagwurz pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .427 with 6 and 18 RBI while slugging .775. This year Bloodaxe drove in 44 and scored 40 runs while batting .314 with 12 longballs.
Ralin Rockbinder out for 6 weeks
BREE - Bree's players were scared when they had to watch Ralin Rockbinder suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Bucklebury on July 1. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Rockbinder will probaby miss 6 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Foot. Rockbinder has hit 19 homeruns this year while batting .295. He adds 19 doubles, along with 68 runs scored. He's 3rd in the Shire Conference in RBIs and 5th in homeruns!
