Mordor defeats Shire in All-Star slugfest
NUMENOR - The Mordor Conference took revenge for last season's beating in the All-Star Game by defeating the Shire Conference, 11-8, and giving the Mordor crew a 3-2 lead in the All-Star series. It wasn't a showcase for pitching, as both teams burst out of the box with 4 runs in the 1st inning.
Gondor's Freodriel Elrymbor started off the game by walking Bucklebury's Scarlett Mawaan and Mirkwood's Curt Ballscarer and followed that with a wild pitch, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with no one out. After Imrilron of Old Forest struck out, Rivendell's Loopy Squishmasher grounded to first, scoring Mawaan. Carrock's Trik Rider then singled home Ballscarer. Minto Foxburr of Bucklebury followed with another walk, and Lake Town's Denamir Eärindel hit a 2-run double, scoring Rider and Foxburr.
Shire starter, Ban Arwodur of Bree, didn't have it any easier in the bottom of the inning. Numenor's Theo Nering singled and reached second on an error by Eärindel. After a wild pitch put Nering at third, Arwodur hit Kadish Ettinripper of Minas Morgul, putting runners at the corners with nobody out. Grey Havens first baseman, Golligast Gandulbo grounded into a double play that scored Nering. A solo homer by Dagorlad's Gamilas Eowil-Galad made the score 4-2. Isengard's Boran Armormasher doubled and scored on an RBI single by Grukak Dwarfcrawler of Grey Havens. Meroman Legeolbo of Numenor followed with a single, and Isengard's Olorin Orithil knocked home the 4th run of the inning with a hit.
In the 2nd, the Shire scored 2 more runs, Mawaan scoring on an RBI single by Imrilron and Imrilron driven home by Squishmasher, to make it 6-4.
Mordor made it a 1-run game in the 3rd when Legeolbo hit a double to the gap in left-center that scored Dwarfcrawler.
The Shire got that run back in the top of the 4th when pinch hitter Balin Bloodspear of Minas Tirith singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Mawaan. They added another run to make it 8-5 when Imrilron doubled home Ballscarer.
In the bottom of the 6th, Nering singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Ettinripper, making it 8-6. They finally took the lead for good in the 7th, scoring 3 runs via an RBI single by Dwarfcrawler and a bases-loaded hit by Orithil that plated 2.
In the top of the 9th, the Shire opened up with a hit from Imrilron, but Squishmasher grounded out on a very close throw from Numenor third baseman Wong Trollraper. Shire team manager, Thranduil Elvenking of Mirkwood, was very upset with the call and got himself ejected while arguing with the first base umpire.
The final score was 11-8. Libur Irontearer of Rohan got credit for the win, while Old Forest's Suukak Nosecrawler got tagged with the loss. Misty Mountain's Vruuhai Throatslobber picked up a save.
