Graniteslinger and Rockback win Player of the Week award
MIDDLE EARTH - Valin Graniteslinger from Mirkwood wins his 4th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Shire Conference. Valin was on fire, hitting .450 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. The Mordor Conference's best player of the week was Rohan's Rafur Rockback, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. In 18 at bats he hit .333 with 3 HR and 8 RBI.
Saroma Radearon out for 8 weeks
NUMENOR - Numenor is without its right-hander Saroma Radearon for at least 8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Phantina Föriand in a game against Dagorlad on July 10. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Tricep Tendon. Opposing players hit .183 against Saroma this season. While posting an ERA of 4.38 he went 2-0 in 0 starts, fanning 47 and walking 21 hitters.
Rafur Rockback slams 3 HR
WEATHERTOP - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Rohan's catcher Rafur Rockback accomplished that feat in a 12-4 win over Weathertop on July 8. His 1st shot, off Phaiar Eowiviel in the 1st inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. A 420 foot drive to center field marked his 2nd bomb, a two-run homerun off Phaiar Eowiviel in the 3rd inning. His 3rd shot, a two-run homerun off Dinodas Muddyfoot in the 4th inning, cleared the fence in left field. Overall he got 5 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, with three runs scored and collecting 7 RBI. So far this season he is batting .313 with 20 homers and 66 RBI. The last player to hit 3 HR in a game was Drogo Gamwich of Minas Morgul, who accomplished the feat on 9/22/2006.
Galaigast Faromli collects five hits against Old Forest
OLD FOREST - Galaigast Faromli led Mirkwood to a 13-2 win over Old Forest on July 8 by squeezing five hits out of his bat. Number 2 in the 3rd inning, a shot estimated at 362 feet, cleared the wall in left field. In the 6th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Biagorn Belöndir. A RBI double off Wuurg Wolfwalker in the 9th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He collected singles in the 1st and in the 8th inning . Galaigast scored 4 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .268.
