Free Agency Not a Dagorlad Success Story
DAGORLAD - Dagorlad general manager Urgathk the Non-Blasé, the fifth general manager in the last three years for Dagorlad, expressed disappointment with the teams results in signing free agents. "Everyone wanted Beardcutter, but he didn’t want us. We also had a strong bid in for Radithor. He seemed happy with our offer, but at the last moment Lake Town swooped in and paid substantially higher. They also shot our messengers so that we couldn't receive word of the new bid and counter it. We have put in the appropriate protests with the league office, but we expect the situation to remain as is."
Not signing Radithor will put outfielder Isembard Ploughman under the gun. "We have expectations for him. We spent the offseason working with Bree's famous trainer John Barleycorn. Barleycorn was responsible for the success of the Mordor Murderer's defensive line in the MEFL. He put Ploughman through the paces and we'll see a new Isembard this year."
Third base will be a battle this year as well. "We signed Glurin Foetearer to swing a bat. He and Legilmador will battle it out for the hot corner. We were one of the worst hitting teams last year and that was one thing we needed to address. Hopefully adding that bat will help us move some people around the bases this year."
The glaring hole is still in the relief corps. Non-Blasé agreed. "We're weak there. We tried to sign people, but the price would have tied up money for years longer than we thought prudent. We've got some people down below who are going to have step up. Donnie Ling is one we’re looking at. Poor kid has this strange name and I think it's affected his self-esteem. I mean, who name's their kid Donnie. Rumors were going around he was changing it in the offseason. We'll see."
Non-Blasé said the first goal of the team is get back over .500. "Last year was atrocious in the Troll Division. It was as if the gods had changed the rules, or at least the version we were used to playing."
Minus Morgul appears to have made the biggest make-over. "We'll see. They go through that every couple of years. I like our chances, there. Isengard, our traditional rival, is who my sights are on first. Their radio stations have been really talking up that team. It's going to be a tighter race this year, that's for sure."
