Gondolin Trades Rockback
GONDOLIN - In a move that shocked fans, the Griffons traded popular catcher, Rafur Rockback, to the Old Forest Merry Fellows today. Rockback, 31, is an icon for the league, and his departure left many Gondolin fans wondering about the direction of their team. Team officials counter that the trade made sense for them at this point. Going to Old Forest in the deal along with Rockback is pitcher Eralqua Megilwen, 27. In exchange, the Griffons receive pitcher Floror Eärilmarion and catcher Ugbag Blacktooth, both key components of the Merry Fellows' playoff run.
Rockback is a 4-time All-Star and winner of 2 Legolas Fielder awards at catcher. He was the first pick for the Palantir Stones (Rohan) in 2003 and was traded to the Griffons in 2008. He has a career .284 batting average with 210 HR and 722 RBI. Megilwen was 11-13 last season with a 4.74 ERA.
Eärilmarion finished with 18 wins for the Merry Fellows last season, going 18-10 with a 3.78 ERA and 189 strikeouts, and he won 3 playoff victories. Blacktooth started out with Dagorlad, then was traded to Misty Mountain in 2005. He came over to Old Forest in 2007.
