Devils strike late for amazing comeback

DUNHARROW - Though they are having their best season in a long time, the Dunharrow Devils are still struggling. Low fan interest and poor attendance has resulted in a team that is on the rocks financially. But on June 15, they staged the greatest comeback in a single game, when they defeated Misty Mountain at home, 14-13, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 9th to shock both fans of the Hops and the Devils.

The game got off on the wrong foot for Dunharrow right away. After a leadoff single by Panther Forfilas, Tran "The Conjurer" Clawfoot smacked a 2-run homer off starter, Vorseen Timbor. It got worse in the 2nd inning, as homers by Tathor Legįldor and Buffy the Balrog Slayer and a 2-run double by Clawfoot made it 8-0. Legįldor added another 2-run homer in the 3rd (coincidentally off Devils reliever Tathor Legąldur), making it 10-0. Forfilas struck again with his 2nd homerun, a 2-run shot in the 5th, to make it 12-0. By the time Dunharrow scored their first 2 runs in the 7th inning, it was clear to the crowd of 7,000 that this game was over.

Then, in the bottom of the 9th, with the score 13-4, the Hops pitching staff fell apart. Mugor Ghoulslobberer led off with a sharp double down the right field line off Golliathor "Fireball" Gandudriel. Bofur Stoneteeth singled him home, making it 13-5. Voruk Spikedragger followed with another single. Catcher Hewpack Belliarm singled to load the bases, and Fosco Bramble punched a hit through the left side, scoring Stoneteeth and Spikedragger, making it 13-7. Gignar Chiseltwister replaced Gandudriel on the mound and immediately walked Frederick Campos to re-load the bases, but he struck out the next 2 batters, all but shutting the door on the Devils hopes.

Then, Hops manager, The Witch King of Angmar, inexplicably replaced Chiseltwister with Lanar Elril-Garą, who surrendered a 2-run single to Higor Elfdrinker. The score was now 13-9 with 2 outs. Elril-Garą gave up another hit to Ghoulslobberer, scoring Campos and putting runners at 1st and 3rd. Visibly upset, the Witch King stormed to the mound and pulled Elril-Garą for closer and last year's Gwaihir winner, Vamsh "The Hatchet" Ratchewer. Ratchewer (1-5) gave up a hit to Stoneteeth that allowed Elfdrinker to score, making it 13-11.

Finally, Voruk Spikedragger launched a drive to deep center that became the game winner, a 437-foot, 3-run homer that made the final score, 14-13. Dunharrow had scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 9th, the last 5 with 2 outs!
