Mirkwood wins Shire Championship in 7

BYWATER - The Mirkwood Marauders were crowned the Shire Conference champions for the 4th time. This is their first title since they won their 3-straight league championships in 2007. It took them 7 games to do it against a tough Bywater squad.

Game 1 was a 15-inning affair that saw Bywater's Neegar Nosegobbler hitting a homerun in the bottom of the inning to give the Bounders the 4-3 win. In Game 2, it was Nosegobbler again with a game-winning hit in the bottom of the 9th for the 4-3 Bywater victory. When the series returned to Mirkwood, the Marauder bats came alive, winning the next game by a score of 11-5. Hallalonn Brilhirion won another of his 4 playoff wins in Game 4 to tie the series at 2 games each. In Game 5, Bywater came up with 3 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 3-2 series lead heading home. Mirkwood's Grikak Dryadpoker outlasted Bounder ace, Bugrin Spinner, for a 4-3 win in Game 6. Finally, Mirkwood won the series in Game 7 with another Brilhirion victory, 9-5.
