Mirkwood wins 4th League Title
MINAS MORGUL - The Mirkwood Marauders won the Return of the King Series for the first time since their "three-peat" between 2005 and 2007, and they did it in grand style, sweeping the defending champion, Minas Morgul, in 4 games.
In Game 1, the 66 minute rain delay in the 2nd cut into the time Marauder starter, "Guns" Goriborn, spent on the mound. But after 4.1 innings of work, he'd only allowed 1 hit and was responsible for the runner that scored off reliever and eventual game winner, Tigtai "Orc Tanner" Tämir. Minto Gamwich went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI to lead the team to an easy 7-1 victory.
Game 2 was a pitchers duel that pit Mirkwood ace, Hallalonn "Bring-It" Brilhirion 16-5, 2.60), against the Slayers' Galealbo Elvàwen (18-9, 2.94). The Marauders struck first, scoring a run in the 3rd. Minto Foxburr tied the game in the 6th, but in the bottom of the inning, Mirkwood's Drogo Gamwich singled home Curt Ballscarer, and shortstop Thauthor Smeand walked with the bases loaded to make the score 3-1, where it stayed for the final Marauder win.
Game 3 saw homers by 6 different players, but with a 4-3 lead in the 9th, series MVP, Minto Gamwich's 2-run blast made the difference for Mirkwood.
Finally, in Game 4, another homerun and a triple by Gamwich sealed the Marauder victory. The final score was 4-1.
Minto Gamwich was named the Bilbo Playoff MVP for the Shire, and Minas Morgul's catcher, Minta Sandyman won it for the Mordor Conference.
