Big Minas Morgul-Moria Trade
MINAS MORGUL - The Slayers and Miners announced a major deal that shakes up the Mordor Conference wild card leaders and, Moria officials hope, give the Khazad-dum squad a boost.
Minas Morgul sends three pitchers to Moria--Quinn Ladygrass, Galealbo Elvąwen, and Bifur "Biff" Snowlegs--in exchange for Bagdreg the Hated, Estagrel Bladeslinger, Francisco Xiques, Thurlla "The Arm" Norą and Rocco Dwarftosser.
Moria does get some quality pitching in the deal. Ladygrass, 27, is a promising young starter, Minas Morgul's 1st pick in the 2007 draft. She is 5-6 with a 3.83 ERA this season. Elvąwen, 30, is a 2-time All-Star and former 20-game winner. He has been a consistent high-caliber starting pitcher for years, with a 103-74 lifetime record, a 3.43 ERA, and 1756 strikeouts. Recently, the Slayers moved him to the bullpen to take over the closer role, where he has been hit-or-miss in his effectiveness. He has 6 saves in 11 opportunities, with 3 blown saves. And Snowlegs, also 30, was Dol Guldur's 1st pick in 2005 and has seen action with the Dragons and Old Forest before being traded to Minas Morgul earlier this season. He has had trouble being a consistent winner, and the Slayers put him in the bullpen this season. He has a 2-3 record with a 5.48 ERA in 21 appearances this year.
What the Miners give up is some incredibly talented players who have never quite reached their potential with Moria. Bagdreg the Hated, 31, should have been a superstar, with 2 All-Star appearances and 1673 career strikeouts, but he has an unimpressive lifetime 86-92 record and 4.12 ERA. Norą, 28, may be just hitting her stride this season with a .275 average, 18 HR and 55 RBI and her first All-Star appearance, but she's mainly been known for defense more than hitting. Bladeslinger, 28, has spent most of the time in the minors. This season as a part-time starter, she's 2-5 with a 5.71 ERA. Xiques, 30, is having his best season out of the bullpen, with a 6-1 record, 2 saves, and a 3.03 ERA in 41 appearances. And Dwarftosser, 32, a long-time mainstay of the Gondolin rotation, has been toiling at AAA Long Cleve this year.
