Bree wins Fellowship Series
BREE - It took 6 games, but the Cheese finally broke their consecutive string of Fellowship Series losses. Bree won their first Fellowship title since 2004 by defeating Mirkwood before 60,000 Cheese-heads in Bree-Land Ballpark on October 11.
In Game 1, it was the Cheese bullpen to the rescue with Hofur Goldcutter, Hildibrand Bridger and Halleron Troublemaker all getting holds and "Fingers" Fionduil picking up the save. Vrsol Swordbasher defeated "Guns" Goriborn, 5-3. Torg Shinsnapper took Game 2 over Rundin Bloodytooth in a 8-4 victory that saw Gollilmer Fyrith go 3-for-4 with a HR and 3 RBI. In Game 3, a 6-run 3rd was enough to overcome a shaky performance by Arweolbo Arweoden who gave up 10 hits and 6 runs in 6.1 innings. Mirkwood's Tubur Trollsnapper, however, gave up 8 runs in 5 innings, as the Marauders went on to lose 10-6. However, Bree shortstop, Arwildoc Belebrindil, came up hurt after a triple in the 3rd inning and may miss the rest of the post-season.
In Game 4, Mirkwood staged a comeback, avoiding the sweep by the brilliant pitching of Goriborn. He went 8 innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits, striking out 8 and walking none. Phanmina Fil-Gar shut things down in the 9th. Game 5 saw a fight between Shinsnapper and Bloodytooth. But in the bottom of the 7th, with the score tied 3-3, Shinsnapper was replaced after striking out the first two hitters, giving way to Dejatok Belebrildur. Belebrildur, who gave up 40 HR this season, was promptly greeted by Minto Gamwich, who launched a 438-footer to deep right center field, making the score 4-3.
At last, in Game 6, the bats of Bree took charge. Homeruns by Fyrith, Bork Beavercleaver and Nose of Sauron gave the Cheese a 7-1 win and their first trip to the Two Towers Series since 2004.
