DAGORLAD - For the first time since 2004, the Disaster are headed for the Mordor Conference finals. They defeated the Dead Marshes Uruk-hai in 5 games, taking the last one in a thrilling 2-1 pitching duel before 45,000 fans at Dagorlad Memorial Stadium.
In Game 1, Tonai Nosethrottler pitched a gem for Dagorlad, giving up 1 earned run in 7.2 innings, striking out 6 and walking none. Meanwhile, the hitting got untracked and scored 8 runs to win the game, 8-1. Game 2 was all Dagorlad, after they scored 5 in the 1st, winning the game 10-4.
In Game 3, the teams took it to the 12th inning locked in a 4-4 tie. Dead Marshes scored in the top of the inning when Raymond Miller singled off Burzarz the Sly, scoring Thuror Nündel. But Dagorlad came back to win it in the bottom of the 12th when left fielder Nalin Shieldmaster rocketed a double to the gap in left center, scoring Basil Landa and Phaibis Eowömbor.
Poised for a 4-game sweep, the Disaster went into Game 4 with Nosethrottler, while Dead Marshes relied on 4th starter, Legan Isauhir. Isauhir's rested arm beat Nosethrottler, 7-5, thanks to a 4-run 7th that included a 2-run single by Eond Elruborn and Lignar Oathbane's 2-run double.
Finally, in Game 5, Todo Sandybanks and Matthew Reade hooked up for a pitching batle that saw Reade scatter 7 hits over 8 innings, allowing 1 run and Sandybanks surrendering 2. The game-tying blow came in the 8th when rookie Clarence Pender scampered home from 3rd on a wild pitch. Then, in the bottom of the 9th, after striking out Rosil Shieldmover and walking Bill Sauers, Sandybanks gave way to Gealf Faramir who gave up a single to Goreogorn Gollaund that moved Sauers to 3rd. Uruk-hai closer, Celemir Eäräwen, came in but couldn't hold on. He struck out Borulf Diamondlegs, but surrendered a 2-out pinch hit to Eowömbor for the game winner.
