Old Forest Crowned Shire Champs!

OLD FOREST - The Old Forest Merry Fellows outlasted the Cheese to take the Shire Two Towers Series and their 2nd conference championship trophy. It took 7 games for Bombadil's squad to make it, but they will be back in the Return of the King Championships for the first time since they won it all in 2009.

In Game 1, Bree's Vrsol Swordbasher gave up just 3 runs on 3 hits in 6.2 innings, while Old Forest ace, Frodo Chubb, was ineffective in the same amount of time, giving up 6 runs, 4 earned, and losing the game, 7-3. Game 2 had Torg Shinsnapper win his 2nd playoff game, as Merry Fellows' 20-game winner, Sjors Cheeseslicer, was just as poor. The final score was 8-2. In Game 3, the Merry Fellows bounced back, winning 6-4 on the arm of Yvestil Ala'Niel and the bat of Rognash Kidneyslammer.

Game 4 was a test of endurance, as the game went into the 17th inning with the score tied at 1 apiece. Both teams used 8 pitchers, emptying their bullpens in the marathon contest. Finally, in the top of the 17th, Old Forest scored when Kidneyslammer scampered home from third on an errant throw by the pitcher, Rebo Roadapple. Sifur Silvermaster followed with a 2-run single to put the game to bed and tie the series at 2 games each.

Chubb got a second chance in Game 5, and he did not disappoint. He pitched 8 innings, scattering 6 hits, and allowing 2 runs. He struck out 11 and walked just 1. Shinsnapper took the loss in the 5-2 Old Forest victory.

In Game 6, Bree's Arweolbo Arweoden hurled a masterful shutout, allowing just 3 hits, to force a 7th game in the series. But in Game 7, Ala'Niel returned the favor, shutting down the Cheese on 5 hits, striking out 13, for the 4-0 win.
