Conference Champions Crowned
Old Forest wins 2nd straight Shire title
Old Forest won its 2nd straight Shire Conference championship trophy by defeating the Wilderland Wargs in 6 games in the Two Towers Series.
In Game 1, Frodo Chubb and Lintegurth Musiceye squared off against each other, and neither gave an inch. Both pitchers hurled complete game efforts, but Old Forest came out on top 2-0. Chubb shut out the Wargs on 4 hits and 11 K's. In Game 2, Bugrin Spinner allowed just 1 hit in 8 innings to give Wilderland a 3-0 victory. Old Forest won Game 3 when Perauman Merumli broke a 5-5 tie in the 7th with an RBI double. The Merry Fellows won again in Game 4 behind Ala'Niel, 6-2.
Chubb and Musiceye faced off again in Game 5. This time, Musiceye got the victory, 4-3, despite Chubb's 12-strikeout, complete game effort.
Spinner's playoff magic didn't hold up for Game 6, as he gave up 6 runs in 6.2 innings, while Old Forest's Cheeseslicer allowed just 1 run in a complete game victory, giving the Merry Fellows their 3rd Shire Conference crown.
Hops head to finals for 1st time
Misty Mountain will be taking its 1st trip to the Return of the King Series in 4 tries. They lost the Two Towers in 2003 to Valinor, 2007 to Grey Havens, and 2009 to Numenor, but this year they managed to come from behind and pull off a win against the powerful Minas Morgul Slayers.
In Game 1, the Slayers won 5-3 when they scored 4 runs in the 7th, including a HR by Minto Foxburr, a game-tying double by Pet Gamgee, and a go-ahead RBI single by Isilborn Imrilron. The Hops tied the series in Game 2 behind another fine pitching performance by their ace, Sorrel Amblestar.
The Slayers demolished Misty Mountain in Game 3, scoring 13 runs in the 8th inning and defeating the Hops 17-3. Minta Sandyman and Praggek Halflinglover each had 4 RBI in the game. It looked like the end for Misty Mountain when Minas Morgul went on to win Game 4, 8-6, to take a 3-1 series lead. But Misty Mountain came back in Game 5 behind Amblestar's 4th straight playoff win. The Hops won the game, 6-2, to send the series back to Minas Morgul.
The Hops got on the board early in Game 6, scoring 6 runs in the first 2 innings and holding on for a 8-4 victory. Buffy Balrog Slayer came out swinging in Game 7, slugging a 2-run HR in the 1st inning, collecting a sac fly in the 3rd, scoring a run in the 6th and another in the 8th, as the Hops advanced to the finals with a 5-3 win.
