Mauhur the Looter Retires

DEAD MARSHES - Breaking news out of Dead Marshes today, as second baseman Mauhur the Looter has announced his retirement following an offseason injury. The team reported that Mauhur will stay on with the team as an assistant coach.

According to team owner, Loki, Mauhur had been spending the offseason at home in the eastern lands, participating in the annual Hobbit Hunt (now merely a ceremonious name, no Hobbits are involved). During the course of the hunt, Mauhur re-aggravated the back injury which cost him the 2006 season.

The combination of this injury and his age led Mauhur to decide to end his playing career. His total of 1031 runs scored rank him 13th all-time, and his 636 stolen bases rank 3rd all-time. Mauhur finishes his career with a .297 batting average, .364 on-base percentage, .500 slugging, and 1610 hits including 187 homeruns and 97 triples, also 3rd on the career list, in 1390 games played.

Mauhur was a 3-time All-Star (2005, 2011, 2013), and also won the Legolas Fielder Award at 2B for the 2009 season. He had two 20-game hitting streaks in his career, and was recognized as the Mordor Conference Player of the Week twice. His 142 runs scored in his 2005 rookie season is still a Mordor Conference record.

In related news, Dead Marshes has reportedly extended a contract offer to a cousin of their new-retired star, though details are sketchy. This new player may help fill Dead Marshes need at the outfield positions.
