Royals-Slayers make blockbuster deal
RIVENDELL - The trade rumors surrounding last season's Shire Conference hitter of the year, Boris Ruano, came to fruition today, as officials of the Royals and the Slayers announced a deal that will send the 3-time All-Star outfielder to Minas Morgul in exchange for a pair of power hitters--Pet Gamgee and Thurlla Norà.
Ruano, 30, won last year's Sam Gamgee Award with a .295 BA, 43 HR and 133 RBI. However, he's having an off-year so far, only hitting .251 with 7 HR, and Rivendell management sought to move him and his $12.5 million annual salary out in order to remain in the thick of their current pennant race. Thus, they worked out a deal in which Ruano, along with catcher, Gweohil Balldrinker, and minor league infielder, Gomsh Eärilmarion, would go to the Slayers in exchange for Gamgee, Norà, and several draft picks.
Gamgee, is a slick infielder with a powerful bat. She has been named to 2 All-Star teams and has won batter of the month awards. Her career average is .274, but in the last 3 seasons with Minas Morgul, she is hitting .311 with 93 HR and 263 RBI. Meanwhile, despite just being 29, she has already had 11 years of Major League experience, joining the Moria Miners in 2004 and winning a League Championship with Old Forest in 2009.
Norà, 30, is called 'The Arm' for her cannon-like throwing from any outfield position and won the 2013 MC Legolas Fielder award in RF. Not usually a hitter for average, she is currently batting .327 with 5 HR and 15 RBI. She, too, has won a championship crown with Mirkwood in 2006 and has been named to 2 All-Star teams.
