From the Darkwings’ Front Office
RAVENHILL - With the acquisition of Mim Marblerage as our regular third-baseman, and Nienna of Dorthonion at 2b (both can play both positions equally well), we feel we now have a potent offense that will be on the field game in and game out. And, as any good hitter will tell you, regular play is essential to success. As the Darkwings’ manager put the case in a recent press conference—colorfully, as always—“There’s no holes in this cheese.”
Naturally, it was very hard to give up such players as the fine young catcher Husil Hammerback, one of the top prospects in our organization, Pru Hearteater, a solid player and clubhouse leader and presence, and Bulbo Sandybanks, who has been with our organization for a long time, though only 29. It is good to know that these players will be able contribute right away to their new team; and may well be fixtures there for years to come. We wish them well, as we do Glosin Foeslayer and Nark Silverbinder, two good pitchers who may be just coming into their prime, and who should also contribute a great deal to the Wilderland franchise.
For our organization, we feel that we have a strong young catching corps throughout our minor league system, and that it is time for Tonak Elviorion to take on the Major League catching responsibilities for which he has been preparing himself since he came to us. Robert Herren has given us great performance in his back-up role at catcher, and with occasional duty in right field. Though we will not strictly platoon our catchers, Robert will be getting plenty of starts vs. left-handed pitching, and will spell Tonak vs. right-handers as needed.
We are sure that, once Mim becomes familiar with the new surroundings, there will be a smooth transfer of some of the clubhouse leadership as we battle to catch our rivals in what we believe may soon become a much tighter race.
And, finally, our addition of two young and enthusiastic pitchers—Terra Treegirl and Petunia Chiseltooth—continues our efforts to build an effective young pitching staff, while our veterans Worm, Earora, Kwak, and Ringeling keep the ship on a steady course and help the “young guns” find and make their mark.
