Underhill goes cycling

EREBOR - "Ladies and gentlemen, Odovacar Underhill has just hit for the cycle!"

That was the call from the PA announcer as Underhill collected the last hit he needed to complete the cycle today against the Merry Fellows.

He collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored as Erebor stopped Old Forest 5-2 at The Eyrie.

Hitting for the cycle is one of the most difficult feats in baseball at any level. The odds are really against a player hitting a single, double, triple and a home run in the same game.

"It's the last thing on my mind really. I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill," Underhill told reporters after the game.

He may be right, but it's not every day that someone hits for the cycle. That's why his name will be placed in the record book.

Underhill grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, tripled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off D. Loamsdown in the 9th.

Underhill is swinging at a .294 pace on the year with 4 home runs, 23 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has played in 27 games.
