Mordor ties All-Star series at 7 each
LOTHLORIEN - It was all about the pitching for the Mordor Conference in the 14th annual All-Star Game as a series of hurlers held the Shire team hitless until the 9th.
Minas Morgul's Firbal the Nasty led off the game by getting hit by a pitch from Shire starter, Sjors Cheeseslicer. Firbal and Isengard's Ragnar *Stonecutter came on to score on a single by Arghren Glimmerhand of the Hops. The Shire answered with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning when Relin Rockmaster of Rivendell scored on a sac fly by Bree's Biggles *Dogsbody after walking and reaching second on a wild pitch and third on a sac fly.
Mordor added a run in the 5th when *Stonecutter scored on a fielder's choice by the Slayers' Tanta Chubb after leading off the inning with a triple. Another Mordor run came in the 7th when *Stonecutter, who had 4 hits in the game, scored from third on a balk by the Royals' Mundin Elfplate.
Tanta Chubb put the game away in the top of the 9th with a massive 2-run homer to left, scoring *Stonecutter. According to estimates, the ball traveled 474 feet!
Bucklebury's Gwogast Gorund finally broke up the combined no-hitter in the bottom of the 9th with a 1-out single. *Dogsbody put another run on the board with a single scoring Rockmaster. But with 2 on and 2 out, Mirkwood's Curt Ballscarer sent a rocket to deep left that was caught by a leaping Boris Ruano to end the game.
Sorrel Amblestar of Misty Mountain was the winner. Cheeseslicer took the loss, as the Mordor team evened up the All-Star series 7-7.
