Veterans still looking for a home
While most of the top stars in the free agent market have already signed contracts, there are still a few names hanging around the week before Spring Training. True, many of them are over 30 and risky choices as starting lineup material, but there is more than one big name yet available to a team looking at filling a role with a veteran.
Some of the players still on the hunt for a team include:
LF Ralin Rockbinder, 37. The first SGCBL player ever, 'Kid' has long since turned into an ironic nickname. Yet, Rockbinder continues to produce. Last year he hit .280 with 19 HR and 65 RBI and stole 35 bases, raising his career SB total to 717 (3rd all-time). The future Hall of Famer now has career totals of 400 HR (9th), 1335 RBI (5th), 1380 Runs (2nd), 2076 Hits (11th), 104 Triples (3rd) and 1095 Walks (6th).
C Ugbag Blacktooth, 33. One of the league's best backstops for 11 years, Blackie has a .283 lifetime average and hit .300 last year for the League Champion Bywater Bounders.
SP Andrack Antslammer, 34. 11-6 last season with Moria (119-90 lifetime), Antslammer isn't quite Hall of Fame material, and his no-hitter came 9 years ago, but he hasn't really lost much (if any) stuff over the years. A solid 3rd or 4th starter.
SP Donnie Ling, 33. The former Dagorlad hurler made his presence felt during the playoffs, starting 4 games for the Disaster, going 2-2 with a 2.05 ERA. Ling has seen action in the bullpen as well as the starting rotation. He was Dagorlad's closer in 2013, going 7-3 with 36 Saves and a 1.88 ERA.
MR Uinen the Cruel, 34. A fireballing pitcher, Uinen has pretty clearly made the case over the past 9 seasons that he is not a quality starter. However, when Dunharrow put him back in the bullpen for the first time since 2011, he really shined, going 4-1 with a save and a 2.86 ERA in 33 appearances.
3B Perauman Merumli, 37. No spring chicken, the Legolas Fielder winner still hit .264 last year for Isengard while playing at 1B, 2B, 3B and even 2 games in CF.
3B Rognash Kidneyslammer, 35. 'The Rog' has been a solid infielder since being tapped as the first member of the Old Forest Merry Fellows in 2003. He might have lost a step or two, but he still stole 16 bases last year to raise his career total to 375.
LF Vorzava Tinond, 36. With a .224 career average, Tinond has never been known as a master batsman. However, his is not so much the art of stringing together a bunch of singles as knocking the tar out of the ball. He has 443 career HR (4th all-time) and 1398 RBI (3rd all-time). On top of that, he has stolen 429 bases (16th all-time). His terrible season last year might be the mark of the end of his career, but it was the first time he hit less that 20 HR ever, including his rookie season.
