Big changes for Dragons
via Dragons Press Release DOL GULDUR - When new Dol Guldur owner/GM Sir Joe took over the struggling franchise, following yet another disastrous season for the perennial Troll Division dungeon dwellers, he made it quite clear that changes were in...While new flexing dragons and sleek uniform are nice, they aren't likely to affect the dismal on-field performance that the Dragon's have shown.
On that front, Sir Joe started with a complete reshuffling of the organizational staff. The new manager was found in the organzation in the form of Sir Kenneth Zimmerman. Sir Kenneth was the manager of the single-A affiliate in Ettenmores. He replaced Darwin Trollbreaker, who is now the Dragon's hitting coach. Former pitching coach Tusur Claybrace is now the team's Bench Coach. "We had quality people in the organization, but they all seemed to be miscast in thier roles. So we shuffled things a bit and brought in some outside help as well." Those new people include Pitching Coach Sufur Armorslayer and Team Physician Isszava Lawsku.
While the changes to the organizational staff were drastic, they pale in comparison to the on-field personnel changes for the Dragon. The 2016 Dragons will feature 7 to 8 regular starters that did not take the field for the home team in Dol Guldur in 2015.
Right fielder Vorzava Tinond was acquired via free agency. Left fielder Wladur Branchwielder and platooning first basemen Troy Patton and Vinar Silverbiter were acquired via trade by the previous ownership early in the offseason. Catcher Amadis Xiquena was the latest new position player added, as he was acquired in a trade with Buckleberry last night.
Perhaps the most significant addition, however, appears to be second baseman Herman Slobberknocker. "We needed a second baseman and had not used our ability to manufacture a player, so I put a call into the Isengard Orc Factory and had one made. We think Herman is going to be a great addition to this ballclub."
The Dragon's also added utlity man Resur Tussle via free agency this offseason. The only two returning starting position players were CF Richard Funderburg and third baseman David Solomon.
There are many new faces on the Dragon's pitching staff as well. New starters Dejetok Belebrildur and Royce Ravensword were added via a trade and free agency. Two-time Allstar closer Ronald Husband was claimed off waivers from Weathertop. Relievers Orangeblossom Grubb and Jossa Greenholm were taken by the Dragon's in the Rule 5 draft.
The result of a long offseason with many roster changes has propelled Dol Guldur to the highest payroll in the Troll Division and 3rd highest overall. In most places, the spending would equate to higher ticket prices but while prices have changed in Dol Guldur, they have not gone the way most would expect.
Ticket prices for the 2016 season have been cut to $7 in an attempt to win back the fans. "Our fans have put up with losing for a long time. We want to give something back to them for their support. We want to win first and reward our fans with lower ticket prices. We hope that the low prices will bring out more fans than ever before to see what this new brand of baseball in Dol Guldur is all about."
On paper, the Dragon's look to be much improved over the past several seasons. The proof, however, will be on the field. Only time will tell whether Sir Joe's plan is successful, but there is no doubt that baseball in Dol Guldur will be a lot more interesting in 2016.

Old Forest and Dol Guldur in big trade
OLD FOREST - Riding into the All-Star break with a lead in the Shire Conference Wild Card race, the Merry Fellows have been shopping around several players, including staff ace Faraborn Elrum recently. Today they struck a deal with Dol..."Cougar" Elrum, 30, is a 2-time All-Star and won the Gwaihir Reliever Award 2 years in a row (2006-2007). He is 4th in career saves with 194. He was Dol Guldur's 2nd pick in 2003 and was traded to Old Forest in 2005 in another deal that involved Gandihil. The Merry Fellows converted him into a starter this season, and in 17 games he is 5-6 with a 3.42 ERA.
Eowil-Galad, 31, is a superstar slugger and the holder of the record for most HR in a season (61 in 2008). He was traded from Dagorlad to Old Forest just a couple of weeks ago and has been struggling at the plate. Currently, he is hitting .204 with 12 HR and 44 RBI.
"Smokey" Loamsdown, 23, was Old Forest's 1st pick in 2004. The young lefthander has yet to show off the potential of his blazing fastball, going 8-21 in 45 starts over 4 seasons before being sent to the bullpen this year.
Silverbiter, 20, was this year's 1st round draft choice for the Merry Fellows. A strong pull hitter, he was hitting .308 with 17 HR and 48 RBI for the AA Mount Doom Merrymen.
Gandihil, 26, was Old Forest's 3rd pick in 2004 and was traded to Dol Guldur in April of 2005. After a couple of solid if unspectacular seasons, he has burst forth as one of the league's premiere hitters with a .346 batting average.
Cheeseslicer, 27, knocked around the Dragons' farm system for 5 seasons before getting a chance to start for the big club in 2008. He went 12-19 with a 3.70 ERA in 36 starts. This year, he is 5-8 with a 3.17 ERA.
Snowlegs, 27, was Dol Guldur's 1st pick in 2005. He entered the starting rotation in 2006, meeting with little success. His record after 3 years was 16-42. This year, however, he has blossomed, going 7-6 with a 2.70 ERA.

Foul Play Suspected In Player Injury
DOL GULDUR – The most brutal and seemingly incongruous injury in Dol Guldur’s history has team management suspicious. Young right fielder Elrugorn Elrilgast fractured a hip after colliding with a wall during a close match against Gondor. Appalled team...“First of all, the injury of young Elrilgast is a tragedy for himself, but also a sore blow to both the team and the public,” said Jools. “Although not rated very high the amiable all-rounder played an important role in the team. He's always in for a good laugh and the spectators enjoyed his swift, daring rally's. Needless to say that Dol Guldur morale has been struggling since his demise.”
Though the investigation is now in full swing, Jools refuses to divulge information as to who is behind the mysterious ‘accident’. When asked if the Gondor organization is to blame for the incident, Jools only referred reporters to a previous statement in which he said, “Surely Dol Guldur will keep an eye on suspicious transfers and transactions between Mordor League leading teams and Gondor, since it is clear that Gondor's power is too puny to devise such treacherous works itself.”
Elrilgast had little to say on the subject. “My testimony has been given to the mages,” Elrilgast told reporters from his healing ward bed. “At the moment, I’m unable to say much else regarding the incident, until the investigation is over. My only hope is that I can heal from this, and come back strong by next season. It is heartbreaking, not being able to play baseball.”
Along with the investigation, rumors of a new training regimen for the Dragons have circulated the league, a regimen in which players will learn new defenses against wall collisions. According to Jools, the new regimen is “highly secret, though highly effective, because none of the players have collided with walls since the Elrilgast incident.”
News on the investigation is expected to be released in a press conference next week.
