Ravenhill Press Conference
RAVENHILL - At a recent press conference, the GM of the Darkwings fielded questions from the press about recent trades. Reporter from The Ravenhill Rag: Skipper, what can you tell us about your most recent trade? Certainly some of the...PapaBear: Well, of course, we feel we got just the players we need in our most recent deal. We do hate to give up Christof, no question. But, in Elivande we think we’re getting a younger starting pitcher with the potential to be a winner with us for years to come. Mim Marblerage, now . . . we can see how that might confuse folks a little. Fact is, though, that Mim told us, shortly after arriving, that he did not want to consider any contract extension offers from us . . . intended to test the market. This surprised us a little, to be honest. But it ain’t unusual these days, either . . . seems like everybody wants more money, y’know? Anyhow, we don’t like to bring in players as what you may call “hired guns,” for the short term. So, when we talked to some of our friends in the Buckleberry organization, it was clear that Girith Falathion would fit our plans very well. We think he’s at the top of his game. And, though he’s 33, he has a 4-year contract. We think he’ll be one of those players who just keeps getting better with age; so, we’re glad to have Falathion on board.
Now, Boreborn . . . that’s a tough loss, no doubt. But, we were able to make that part of the deal because we have a few young people in our franchise who play that position and who are just about ready to be solid contributors—maybe even great ones—at the major league level: just to throw a few names out there, so they’ll know what we’re looking for from them: Green, Moss, Stonearm, Bos . . . and, heck, a few others, too. But, ya gotta be careful, these days, about whose horn you toot, if ya know what I mean. Those I named, they know they’re on our radar screen for making a difference real soon.
TRR: Well, Skipper, sounds pretty good. I guess we’ll see pretty soon how it plays out. Thanks for giving us a few minutes. And, best of luck to the Darkwings in the stretch run.

News from Ravenhill
From the Darkwings’ Front Office RAVENHILL - With the acquisition of Mim Marblerage as our regular third-baseman, and Nienna of Dorthonion at 2b (both can play both positions equally well), we feel we now have a potent offense that will...For our organization, we feel that we have a strong young catching corps throughout our minor league system, and that it is time for Tonak Elviorion to take on the Major League catching responsibilities for which he has been preparing himself since he came to us. Robert Herren has given us great performance in his back-up role at catcher, and with occasional duty in right field. Though we will not strictly platoon our catchers, Robert will be getting plenty of starts vs. left-handed pitching, and will spell Tonak vs. right-handers as needed.
We are sure that, once Mim becomes familiar with the new surroundings, there will be a smooth transfer of some of the clubhouse leadership as we battle to catch our rivals in what we believe may soon become a much tighter race.
And, finally, our addition of two young and enthusiastic pitchers—Terra Treegirl and Petunia Chiseltooth—continues our efforts to build an effective young pitching staff, while our veterans Worm, Earora, Kwak, and Ringeling keep the ship on a steady course and help the “young guns” find and make their mark.

Ravenhill trades for the future
via Ravenhill Free Press RAVENHILL - In two carefully and patiently executed negotiations, Ravenhill management has traded five of its long-time greats, and fan-favorites, for its future . . . without, the franchise representative said, giving up on the present...When asked whether the moves mean that Ravenhill has “given up on this season,” the spokesman said, “Not at all . . . we expect Sandyman and Tookes to contribute right away, and we think 1 or 2 of the young players we’ve brought in will be ready to contribute at the big league level very soon. We have a good solid core of players on this team, still, and we intend to compete right down to the wire. And, don’t forget the players in our minor league system who’ve been waiting for a chance to make their mark. Some of them will get that chance very soon.”
The key Ravenhill players involved in the trades seemed to understand management’s position, and seemed to be excited at the prospect of carrying on their solid careers in their new situations. Two of them spoke with us after the press conference.
“I was surprised, no question,” said Ulaf Silverglove. “But, I can see where Ravenhill is going with these deals, and I’m happy to do everything I can to help Minas Morgul have a great season . . . and many more to come.”
Eucalypta the Pink was, perhaps, more surprised than anyone about the moves. “I had no idea . . . it really has taken me by surprise. I guess it just goes to show that you have to keep your mind in the game and not worry about anything on the business side of it. I guess that’s what I take from this: I’m a pitcher, not a businessperson. I think Bywater will be very happy with what they get with me on the mound . . . while Denaigol is losing a lot of balls over the wall in right center field.” The hurler smiled, and continued packing bags and saying goodbyes.

Moria-Ravenhill Deal
MORIA - In a trade agreed to by the parties near the end of the season, the Darkwings and Miners have swapped players. Ravenhill will get OF Denaigol 'Hitman' Denaihir, SP Feanor Greycloak and minor league OF Masin Oathworker. Moria...Denaihir had an excellent year for the resurging Miners team, hitting .281 with 28 HR and 109 RBI and being named to the Shire All-Star team. Meanwhile, Greycloak's performance was spotty. While his record was 8-10 with a 4.18 ERA, he hurled a shutout, and 12 of his 23 starts were considered Quality Starts. The 22-year-old Oathworker was Moria's 1st round draft pick in 2010 and hit .290 for AAA Long Cleve.
On Ravenhill's side of the deal, Shaglakh, known as the "Fox", is known more for his fielding and speed than his bat, winning the 2012 Legolas in RF, but he hit .333 last season. Anstlammer has always been an excellent pitcher until this season. Moria is betting that his 9-13 record and 4.11 ERA were a bump in the road. Up until this season, Andrack had never had a losing season or an ERA above 4. And Brandewyn of Rohan is a solid young utility infielder.

Irontearer moved to bullpen
ROHAN - Rohan pitching has come to the end of an era as SP Libur Irontearer will be taken off the starting rotation this week. Irontearer has been leading the Rohan pitching staff for the past 7 years. Only last...Manager jools does not regret his decision on the 4 year contract. 'I don't begrudge Libur the money he has rightly earned. He has stayed loyal to the team through all these years and never demanded too much. And who knows, maybe he will play an important role yet in the bull pen this season, teaching the younger guys how to throw a mean ball.' That being said, jools immediately stated Irontearer will be protected against fouling his brilliant statistics so far. 'It's no good wearing him down to the point he no longer can perform at the level we're used from him. Even if that means a preliminary retirement.’
In the mean time Rohan management has taken appropriate action ro replace Irontearer. Dol Guldur SP Drogo Loamsdown has been contracted to fill in the vacancy. Despite Drogo's disappointing performance so far, Rohan is pleased with the young man (26). ‘We hope he will improve and maybe playing for a winning team will help.’
In order to claim Loamsdown, Rohan had to let go one of it's most intrigueing players of the last couple of seasons: Olli 'Bolli' Pimmelgrim. At first it was thought Pimmelgrim would be a decent utility only, but this season it has become clear he has a lot more up his sleeve. 'Bolli' has developed into a major slugger, with 11 HR and 14 Doubles for 174 at bats this year. Percentage wise that's well into the Mordor League top ten for both doubles and homeruns. Also he's getting a huge amount of BB's. Pimmelgrim has 34 for 174 at bats, which puts him up 1st in Mordor League percentage wise. Add to this his excellent running capabilities and decent fielding ratings, and he might be THE discovery of Middle Earth baseball this season.
'We're sad to see Bolli go,' jools commented, 'but it's give and take. Hopefully the fans won't be disappointed, because he's a spectacular player to watch. With him at the plate you know it will be either a home run, a walk followed by hazardous base running, or a strike out. He will be missed, but hopefully he will have a wonderful career with Dol Guldur.’
The departure of Pimmelgrim will no doubt be a relief to infielders Sandybanks and Duhm-Krom, with whom he was in fierce competition for an infield position on the roster. 'That was also a reason for chosing to let Olli go,’ says jools. ‘A player like him should have a permanent spot in the line up and with Sandybanks and Duhm-Krom, we could not guarantee that. And of course we hope it will bring back some rest in the team. Now that decisions have been made, the team's strategy is clear for the future, and all noses are pointing in the same direction again (as goes the Dutch expression).'
Rohan-Dol Guldur Trade
ROHAN - The RoughRiders looked to improve their pitching staff with the acquisition of Drogo "Smokey" Loamsdown in a trade with the Dragons. Dol Guldur agreed to send Loamsdown to Rohan in exchange for infielder Olli "Bolli" Pimmelgrim. Loamsdown, 25,...March 30, 2006

Rohan takes series from Stars
ROHAN - The Rohan RoughRiders are heading to the Mordor Conference finals for the first time since 2006. They defeated the Grey Havens Stars in 5 games to advance to the Two Towers Series with a 13-inning win sealing the...Game 1 had Rohan's Andrack Antslammer pitching a dandy, going 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 6. The Stars' Phanth Fimir only allowed 3 earned runs, but with 2 outs in the 3rd, he mishandled a ball off the bat of Krom Duhm-Krom, loading the bases for a 2-run Posco Sackville single. Rohan won the game, 5-2.
In Game 2, the Stars fought back, as Born Long Cleve only allowed 2 runs in 7 innings of work. Duhm-Krom returned one of the unearned runs from the prior game, allowing Golligast Gandulbo to score on a throwing error in the 1st inning. Grey Havens won 4-3.
When the series went to Rohan for Game 3, the RoughRider bats came alive. They knocked out Grey Havens starter, Glosil Foerender, in the 4th. Despite losing the game, 8-7, the Stars' Golligast Gandulbo was named player of the game after going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and 4 RBI.
Game 4 was yet another one where a mistake that led to an unearned run decided the outcome. Rohan's Libur Irontearer went 6 scoreless innings, striking out 7. The Stars pitchers did not allow a single earned run, but Begrin Starsley's throwing error in the 4th led to a 3-run double by Rohan's Inadora Tovar, and the RoughRiders won the game, 3-1.
Finally, in Game 5, the two teams hooked up for a mighty struggle that lasted 13 innings and saw 14 pitchers. Fimir and Mathilda the Sling held each other in check, allowing just 2 runs each, for the first 7 innings. In the 9th, Grey Havens' Marroc Gamwich hit a single that scored Starsley to take a 3-2 lead, but Rohan struck back in the bottom of the inning when Duhm-Krom scored on a Sackville RBI single. In the bottom of the 13th, Ulaf Silverglove hit a double to the gap in left-center, and Duhm-Krom drove him in with a 1-out single, giving Rohan the 4-3 victory.

Dunharrow making early deals
DUNHARROW - The Devils are wasting no time launching into 2009. Before the playoffs were even finished, the team had agreed to two trades, including a deal that gave up their first 5 draft picks to Mirkwood....The first trade of 2009 involved a swap with Rohan that sent 3B Bulbo Sandybanks to the RoughRiders in exchange for Fosco Bramble and $20 million. Sandybanks, 23, was the Devils 2nd pick in 2004. The young hobbit has shown great potential, but a string of injuries has kept him from breaking out. Bramble, 24, was Isengard's 1st pick in the 2004 draft. Traded from the Raiders to Rohan last season, Bramble has yet to show what he can do at the plate, but he is a pretty good infielder with a strong arm.
In the Mirkwood deal, Dunharrow decided to give up on this season's draft and try to obtain some young talent that could be used more immediately. For their first 5 picks, the Devils recieved $21 million and pitchers Fosco Sandybanks and Friagorn Eluldur, infielders Lolindir Ciryatan and Drogo Knotwise, and outfielders Dain Stoneteeth and Gunus Goblinbinder.
Sandybanks, 23, was Mirkwood's 3rd pick in 2004 and has bounced around the Marauder minors ever since. He has yet to blossom into a star reliever, but he has incredible stuff. Eluldur, 28, was signed by Mirkwood in 2003. He has made a couple of September trips to the big leagues, but has yet to find his niche.
Ciryatan, 25, is a hard-hitting corner man, who's played at first and third for Isengard and Mirkwood in the minors. Knotwise, 27, has a gun for an arm and can play 2B, 3B and SS. He can hit a little, too.
Stoneteeth, 22, was Moria's 2nd pick in 2006 and was traded to Mirkwood in 2007. He has great range in all outfield positions and has worked hard at getting his strikeout totals lowered. Goblinbinder, 27, is also a multi-faceted outfielder with a good bat and strong arm.

38 and still going strong
via Rohan Post Dispatch ROHAN - While Rohan is desperately waiting for their many young talents to bloom and improve, 38-old champion of veterans SP Legeron Iseomer last week set a stunning example as to how to keep in shape...."It's my weekly riding tour on my trusted steed over the plains," Iseomer stated when asked after his secret. "These days youngsters seem to think they are already stars and spend too much of their time off among the Edoras jet set. You can't expect to develop your talents when you sit in inns until after midnight each weekend."
Surely the League's oldest still playing all time star pointed to Badgerpoker, Bima, Bramble, Mulder, Karbonkel and Sareoden, six of Rohan's most notorious nightraiders, who are frequently joined by their female collegue Mathilda the Sling. 'That just doesn't do,' according to Iseomer, who is expected to be knighted after this season as Ridder of the Mark.
'Legomer is a living legend and a perfect example of a very professional baseball player,' manager Jools said when asked about Iseomer's seemingly everlasting improvement. 'It's incredible in fact. I mean just look at this guy. He is 38 years of age but still he looks like he's only 20 and each year it seems like he even grows an inch or so. And with this huge bunch of curly hair of his and those round rosy cheeks, one might think he only grows younger and stronger.'
With these remarks, Rohan's new manager unintentionally blew new life into old rumours. For many years, critics have claimed that Iseomer during his rides on the plains, strays far North and has been seen passing into Fangorn forest at times. 'I don't give not much credibilty to that,' Jools retorted. 'Much more important right now is that Rohan management finds a way to extend Legomer's contract for another year. We are looking for ways to make him change his mind.'
In the mean time, the much harrased manager has announced Bramble, Mulder and the Sling will be spending time in AAA until their performances improve.

Rohan Reacts
By Kurmazh the Atrocious ROHAN - In recent events, several players and even a manager have turned up dead, apparently victims of cheese poisoning. Management and players of Rohan were contacted to get their reactions. We spoke with Fosco...We also caught up with team captain, Rafur "Rocky" Rockback, and asked for his take on these recent events. "Cheese poisoning? (incoherent grumbles)...silliest thing I ever heard...(incoherent grumbling)....silly Shire Conference.....(incoherent grumbling)...next thing you know they'll be instituting the DH here in the Mordor," he said. At which point the grizzled signal caller stormed off back into the RoughRider dressing room.
For a more eloquent response, we contacted superstar pitcher Legeron Iseomer for a comment. He said, "I don't know, it's all very suspicious if you ask me. I think I am going to just avoid cheese altogether until the league resolves this issue."
We also managed to arrange for a conference with Elowin Eomer, spokesman for the team owners, the Rohan Ranchers Association, and General Manager of the RoughRiders. "Currently, we understand that the league has hired the services of an investigator, and we believe that this is the proper course of action. The last thing we want to do is come to any conclusions as to why this is happening without all the facts."
When approached, a RoughRiders fan had this to say on the subject: "This is just (expletive deleted), whoever is doing this has no respect for the game and should have his (expletive deleted)(expletive deleted), and then I would like to (expletive deleted) him in the (expletive deleted)! But, hey, they haven't gotten any of the RoughRiders! GO ROUGHRIDERS!"
The Rohirrim will continue to play ball as usual, but no doubt with just a little anxiety to see this issue resolved.

The Rohan Report
by Kurmazh the Atrocious NEW BLOOD IN ROHAN This season marks the debut of young pitching phenom James Miller. Thought by many to be the number one pitching prospect in the minors last season, Rohan native Miller is expected...RoughRiders off to slow start, but expected to improve
The RoughRiders are off to a rocky start in April with a record of 9 wins and 13 losses, the RoughRiders are struggling to find the form they had last season when they lead from opening day until the playoffs. Rafur Rockback, the teams leader has only gone 3 for 21 in the last week and is trying to shake off the funk and spark the team. The diminutive star was unavailable for comment, when approached he grumbled something about "too darn early dagnabit" and then walked away.
Meanwhile other players who were not really effective last season have stepped up. Fikak Daggerprodder a free agent acquisiton last season was believed by many to be a dissappointment, and with the addition of Disil Axesmith in a late season trade, it was believed that Rohan management didn't want to take any chances. With Axesmith failing to deliver and fleeing to the greener patures of Numenor, Daggerprodder again found himself in a position to prove himself and this time he is taking advantage of the situation. Fikak has hit .338 so far this season, and hit two round trippers and driven in 11 runs.
"I really felt like I lets the team down last season, I knows I can play much better, and I wants to help the team," the eloquent goblin stated.
Flordor Eärämbor, has also stepped up his game is starting to hit the ball with some authority. A role player last season, he quietly shored up the 4 spot on the field all last season for the RoughRiders. This season Eärämbor has started strong and is hitting the ball well with a .338 and 12 RBI. The Elf wanted to share some poetry to describe how good he was feeling about his performance thus far this season but unfortunately we didn't have the patience...err the space to reprint it.
Despite the contribution of these players, the Rohirrim are growing concerned with the performance of their team and they hope they can snap this cold streak as the team heads towards May and get back in the race for the Mordor Conference.
"I've seen this before, we made a big improvement last season and there have been alot of changes, once things settle down, we'll play the ball your used to seeing from the Riders," Fosco Baggins, team skipper was quoted as saying before spitting out some tobbacco juice and wiping his arm across his mouth.

Rohan Charges Into All-Star Break
By Kurmazh the Atrocious Rohan Weekly ROHAN- The RoughRiders continue their winning ways as the All Star break approaches. Appearing in the All-Star Game for the RoughRiders, and starting at catcher, will be team captain, Rafur Rockback, who is...Crowds At Helms Deep
The controversey earlier this season surrounding the presence of so many teams in the Helms Deep area has apparently subsided, as it is now clear the Rohirrim are firmly on board the RoughRider wagon as it gains speed. Rohan currently boasts the fifth highest attendance figures in the league--compared to last year when the team was still the Palantir Stones and ranked 13th overall. All throughout Rohan, fans can be seen wearing the distinctive Red and Black.
Rohans Two Towers
One of the keys to the success of the RoughRiders this season, and the one most overlooked, has been the performance of the platooning first base duo of Vrurag Throatpoker and Elruden Elraralindë. These two veterans have quietly been compiling some big offensive numbers for the RoughRiders. Elraralindë, who gets the majority of starts against righty pitchers, is batting an impressive .335 with 9 homers and 38 RBI. While the Throatpoker, who plays against lefties, has been dominating with a .386 and 26 RBI. The unlikely Elf and Orc combo are often seen playing catch and joking before games, and neither is concerned with sharing the spotlight. "Though my foul friend does smell, I can't deny his ability and his love of the art of baseball," Elruden had to say about his team mate Throatpoker. "'Es all right for a pointy eared fella," was Throatpoker's response. High praise indeed from an Orc.

RoughRiders Weekly
By Kurmazh the Atrocious Rohan Weekly ROHAN - The RoughRiders find themselves in first place in the Goblin Division, stretching their lead over last years conference champs, the Valinor Vandals, to three games. The way they have won these...RoughRiders of the Week
It seems every week a new team member is stepping up his play to lift the RoughRiders to victory this week, the bullpen really sounded off with several stellar performances by Meli Orcmaker and Rinak Kidneyraper who both collected a pair of wins in outstanding relief performances this past week.
Pitching Changes
Vral Spikekiller, the skilled veteran has been relegated to spot starter and mopup relief in favor of Libur Irontearer, a 28 yaar old free agent acquisition. Vral had a less than stellar season in 2003 with only 9 wins and 14 losses and a 4.76 ERA for Palantir, he started slow this year as well losing his only three decisions and registering an 8.64 ERA. Irontearer who was acquired from the Lonely Mountain Losers, now the BuckleBerry Fairies, had an impressive 17 and 6 season. Early in the year he was put in the position of spot starter and mop up due to the great depth on the Rohan staff. The dwarf would get his chance and take advantage of this opprotunity, allowing only 2 runs in 13 innings of work and grabbing a win against Misty Mountain and garnering Player of The Game honors.
When Vral was aksed how he felt to be bumped back to spot starter status he had this to say, "Well, O'course I'm a bit upset about it. Hey, I ain't the boss, the wee feller is the boss and he said to give the stunty a chance, I just want to help dis team win, and I gets paid to do that, if it means I gots to be a spot starter, than so be it!"
Other Notes
Posco Sackville is Day to Day with a bruised cheekbone he recieved after getting hit by a pitch during a road game against Dul Guldur. The team was happy that the rookie phenom was not hurt more seriously by the wayward pitch and tensions ran high after the rookie shortstop went down.
"We wuz all holdin' our breath when we saw little Posco fall down, but we all sighed when the little feller got up and trotted down to first. He's a tuff little guy," said Posco's team mate and friend Wilo Toothkicker.
There was some concern that there would be retaliation, but the RoughRiders took the high road. "I'm not gonna take a cheap shot at another team, it's not worth the chance of ending some guys career over a lost temper," team manager Baggins said, before spitting and wiping his mouth with his sleeve.

Helms Deep Crowded, Horse Lords Demand Resolution
By Kurmazh the Atrocious Rohan Weekly ROHAN - Elodin, chairman of the Rohan Ranchers investment group and owner of the Rohan RoughRiders, is threatening to petition the King of Rohan to do something about the number of baseball clubs...The Dagorlad Disaster minor league affiliate, the Helms Deep Harriers, and the Misty Mountain Hops minor league club, the Helms Deep Huorns, also play in the vicinity. Elodin and his investment group argue that they took a risk by moving the Palantir club to the limited market of Rohan with the promise that they could increase the popularity of the sport among the Rohirrim if given the opportunity to field a franchise. Part of the deal was to build a ball park at Helm's Deep, and construction has begun on a complex that should be ready by next season. In the meantime, the RoughRiders have been playing in an old arena in downtown Helms Deep in the shadow of the great fortress. The Rohan Ranchers believe that having to share the venue with minor league teams is costing the team money.
Elodin has offered a forum for both the Misty Mountain and Dagorlad management to voice their response to his request in the hopes that the two will move their clubs and avoid the involvement of the King of Rohan. Elodin also stated that he and his fellow Ranchers are willing to wait until next season in order for the two minor league clubs to find a new venue.
There is some concern among local fans who have jumped aboard the RoughRider band wagon, some of which are also Harrier and Huorn fans, that this contreversy may affect the play of the RoughRiders and may hurt overall attendence at RoughRider games. They are also torn over the potential loss of their favorite minor league teams. "Wow, I really had a blast watching Harrier games last season, and I was ecstatic to hear we were getting a pro team this season, but I still love the Harriers, and it would be a real bummer if they left town over this," one fan was quoted as saying.
Some action groups among the fans have submitted research to the management of the RoughRiders showing that over the last month fan interest has actually increased for the RoughRiders despite the presence of the two minor league clubs. However, an attorney representing the RoughRiders was less than convinced, pointing out that it has, after all, only been one month of the RoughRiders first season.
When Rafur Rockback team captain of the RoughRiders was contacted to comment on the players perspective, the Dwarf refused to comment, grumbled and then walked away.
Please look for future updates on this developing story.

Rohan Makes Strong Start
By Kurmazh the Atrocious Rohan Weekly ROHAN - Well the Rohirrim were feeling paticularly rambunctious as the Rohan RoughRiders opened up the season on the right foot, going 5-1. The pitching staff is looking paticularly impressive as predicted by...Pitching Notes
Fosco Baggins said that pitching would be the key this year, and early in the season the Rohan staff is looking quite dominating. With the likes of Wonai Trollprodder, Legeron Iseomer and Somina Glomir, this combination of starters is as good as any in the league. With Goldarm coming in from the bullpen, it will be quite a task to get the best of this talented group all season. With ERA's all under 4, and an undefeated record, all three of these starters are living up to their billing, and Goldarm has already accrued 3 saves on the season.
Batter Notes
Team Captain, catcher Rafur Rockback, has started off strong, hitting 10-for-19 at .526, with 6 RBI and a round tripper. Many say that Rockback can make a play for the vaunted triple crown, if he can remain consistent.
The big story in Rohan, though, is the explosiveness of Wilo Toothkicker. The young orc centerfielder has really taken off to start the season, going 10-for-25 for a .400 average with 2 homers and 12 RBI. When asked about his inspired play, he said, "I just wants to help me team, I thinks we can be contendas."
Many were concerned that with a new hobbit manager there may be some dissension in the dugout with the orc players, but it seems the business-like attitude and no-nonsense team philosphy of Fosco Baggins is working wonders for the team's chemistry. In fact, it is surprising to see that Posco Sackville and Toothkicker have developed a rather odd friendship, and the two room together on road trips. Many believe that Baggins does this on purpose to promote team play.
The Rohan fans have been very excited about their new team's play, and early attendence records bode well for baseball in the land of the horselords. The Rohirrim just hope that this is a trend that will continue throughout the season.
