Countdown to Star Trek

Probably every geek out there has already read Harry Knowles’ ravings about the new Star Trek movie, where a crowd of Trek fans gathered to watch Wrath of Khan and wound up getting a visit by Leonard Nimoy and a full screening of Star Trek. In my excitement about going to see it next week, I looked up Harry’s commentary and savored every over-the-top geekgasmic sentence. And to top it all off, they’ve got Sylar and Shaun in this one! There’s no one I can imagine as being a better Spock and Scotty besides Nimoy and Doohan.

In the battle between Trek and Star Wars fans, I’m definitely on the Trekkie side. And in the futher subdivision of the Trek faith, I’m an Original Series guy. Next Gen was pretty good, but I never got into Deep Space 9, absolutely hated Voyager, and didn’t give Enterprise much of a chance after that. Nope, for me it’s the classic Kirk-Spock-McCoy love triangle.

Can’t. Wait.

Even with the preview crowd’s strong reaction, I am still really afraid it’s going to suck. The shiny white and chrome bridge set just screams “BAD BAD BAD!!!”

After so many bad Star Trek movies and sequel series, I just don’t have the heart left to bear another disaster.

I really hope Harry Knowles is right.

I hadn’t heard about this Harry Knowles thing till now, but I look forward to reading it.

I REALLY look forward to seeing the movie. The previews look awesome. I was skeptical when I first heard about the movie, but the more I’ve read and heard and seen, I’m sold.

Funny how Solly is a Original Series guy. Back when Next Gen came out, he had to talk me into watching it, I was so opposed to anything but the original. (Glad he did!) I still think I prefer the Originals by a smidge, but only just…

Something about Harold (without Kumar) playing Sulu appeals to me. And the guy they have playing Kirk absolutely looks like he could grow up to be William Shatner. Gonna be fun, looking forward to a new (old) Trek movie.

I was lured to the dark side of Next Gen, but I got better.

Don’t listen to BK…I suspect he’s a closet Star Wars guy…just read his view on Jar Jar Binks again – he just hates him a little bit too much don’t ya know…The new Star Trek movie is so going to ROCK in high amplitude awesomeness. In order of my own preference: TNG, TOS (only 2nd because of all that lovey dovey stuff with Kirk), Voyager, Enterprise and a distant last place to DS9.

I have to say I am a Trekkie thru and thru… But I prefer TNG over TOS just because of the production quality. I have enjoyed all of the series but my preference list would be, TNG, TOS, VOY, DS9, ENT. Before my move south I had amassed a sizable collection of novels, since getting the Kindle I am doing it again….the latest Crossover novels (utilizing characters from most of the series.) have been particularly good…resolving the Borg issue once and for all, but at the cost of some beloved characters, I won’t spoil it for those interested in reading them.

Now THAT would make a good movie…

Oh yeah, they already did a Borg movie.

    Damn.
