Guess I picked the wrong day to quit, um, writing anything?

Actually, I’m fine (at least at home), because I use OpenOffice. However, all y’all stuck in Microsnot Land technically can’t finish that term paper or write that novel anymore…at least if you want anyone to read it…

Microsoft Issues Word Zero-Day Attack Alert – eWeek

Microsoft on Dec. 5 warned that an unpatched vulnerability in its Word software program is being used in targeted, zero-day attacks. A security advisory from the Redmond, Wash., company said the flaw can be exploited if a user simply opens a rigged Word document.

There are no pre-patch workarounds available. Microsoft suggests that users “not open or save Word files,” even from trusted sources.

This isn’t really all that dire, actually. I’m amused that most of the reporting on it has left out the “e-mail attachment” part of the warning (as in, “do not open or save Word files you get in an e-mail attachment, even from trusted sources”). But that’s standard advice these days. You should never open any e-mail attachment you are not expecting. Ever.

Thank you evil hackers. Thank you to hell.
