Series 4 is coming!

UPDATE: “Because of the way that the BBC is funded in the UK through the licence fee, we cannot make videos available outside of the UK.”

Grrr. What a load of crap. When will media companies realize that there is no “outside of the UK” anymore and that there’s a difference between protecting intellectual property because it’s valuable and just being stubborn asses?

You can watch the Doctor Who Series 4 trailer at the BBC website. Oy vey.

youtube says ‘Sorry, it’s no longer available’.

    OOPS!

    So, what WAS it, Solly?

Welcome to the rest of the world. I’d happily watch Heros on the NBC website (even if they included adverts) but I’m not allowed. In fact, last I checked I’m not even allowed to pay to watch The Colbert Report online.

I do, however, pay my BBC license fee. A license fee which is increasing to help fund international content because too many international consumers refuse to pay anything towards the content. If I could allow my friend who I know are respectful of such matters access I’d happily put in a good word for you, but I’m afraid it’s not possible because of widespread abuse by others.

You have no idea how many political hot potatoes you’re juggling with when you get involved with media companies and the UK 🙂

Well, I think it’s just as silly for NBC or Viacom to restrict access to videos (with commercials, yet!) as it is for the BBC to do so.

However, I wasn’t talking about getting a free showing of Doctor Who. It’s a freaking promotional video! It’s supposed to, ya know, PROMOTE. 🙂

I know you’re just jazzed about the promo, the problem is the Beeb have had to make a big stand in dividing their presence into BBC and BBC Worldwide. As they’re promoting the show for their channel, which is UK only, it just makes sense to keep it in the UK network; much as it may annoy you foreign types. It’s actually part of a big deal they made with the government a little while back to prevent even bigger funding cuts than they have to deal with right now. Bizarrely, if they let you watch an official copy of the promo on YouTube they honestly could lose the money to make the show at all.

Plus it’s always slightly amusing hearing Americans complain about being the ones getting a hard time in media content for a change 😉

Sorry Solly, my attention is tuned to Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica, which is coming, too….
