T.I.A. Blocked…For Now…

Ron Wyden is my new hero, although I must say all of those nice people in the Senate that were actually there and not sleeping during the voice vote to block funding for the Pentagon database deserve a laurel and hearty handshake. Sure, it was tacked on to a spending bill and not taken head-on. Sure, it doesn’t actually turn off the power in Poindexter’s evil underground laboratory. But at least somebody was awake enough to put language in there that says TIA cannot be deployed without congressional approval. That’s something, isn’t it?

Thank heaven for small miracles. I’m hoping that this is just the little snow ball beginning to roll down Capitol Hill until it picks up enough speed and size to knock some sense into Bush.

    I can dream, can’t I?

  2. Jody says:

Thanks for cluing me in to this. I had no idea it was even going on. The government wants to strip away our freedom, slice by wafer-thin slice. Scary stuff.

Oh, and “laurel and hearty handshake”? The only place I know that phrase from is Blazing Saddles. Which begs this addition: “‘scuse me while I whip this out…”

  3. Solonor says:

Heh. I was wondering who’d catch that.

  4. Bill says:

I was just about to say, “The Sherrif is a’near!”

That movie is the bedtime tape I watch the most (helps me to sleep): Blazing Saddles, The Frisco Kid, and Spaceballs.
I’d prefer Young Frankenstein for the third, but it was taped off TV as stuff showed up.
