Tolkien Baseball put its best players on the field today, and the game certainly showed that.
In the annual Midseason Classic, the Shire Conference came out over the Mordor Conference by a final score of 12-7. Leading the way for the Shire Conference All-Stars was left fielder Bowman Millstone.
“I go out there and do my best every game, All-Star game or not,” the star said after his great show, going 3-for-5 in the contest with a grand slam.
The Mordor Conference got things started in sloppy fashion in the top of the 2nd when Norman *Xanatos scored after Dead Marshes’ Dudo Hornblower was hit by a pitch from Meli Rocksnapper with the bases loaded. They would give that run back in the bottom of the inning when Justin Headstrong of Old Forest hit a grounder to first with the bases loaded that Mordor first baseman, Forerunner *Baggins, threw into left field in an attempt to get the runner at second. Issth Elreogol of the home town, Erebor Eagles, scored the tying run.
The trouble for Mordor wasn’t over, yet. Immediately after *Baggins’ error, Teril the Wizened walked home the go-ahead run with the bases loaded, and Misty Mountain’s Tanta Trample was called into the game. She was promptly greeted by player-of-the-game, Bowman Millstone, who took a 2-0 pitch and sent it over the right field wall for a grand slam and a 6-1 Shire lead.
The MC still hadn’t given up, though, because in the 3rd *Xanatos took Bywater’s Eruushnak Goblinmaster deep with the bases loaded for their own grand slam, brining the score to 6-5.
From there on, the Shire simply kept chipping away at any hope the Mordor squad could muster.
In the 5th, Ferdinand *Puttifoot knocked home Bree’s Eideron *Knuklebreaker with a triple, and Justin Headstrong belted a 3-run homer off Celain Melwasul to make it 10-5 Shire.
*Puttifoot struck again in the 6th with an RBI single, scoring Millstone, to make it 11-5. And Deivi Arauborn hit a solo homer in the 8th to complete the Shire Conference scoring.
