Sowell Sends Old Forest Bats to Deep Freeze
|
Gaetano Sowell of the Rivendell Royals was on top of his game.
The 34-year-old tantalized the Old Forest Merry Fellows with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.
"He had the changeup working," Old Forest manager Tom Bombadil said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Rivendell hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Sowell told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
In 9 starts this season, Sowell has recorded 5 wins and absorbed 2 losses. He has pitched 60.2 innings, allowed 46 hits, struck out 46 and has a 2.67 ERA.
