Lorien Ace Named DL Most Valuable Player

He's only 22 years old, but Genady Østby of the Lorien Tree Wardens has clearly established himself as a star of SGCBL Draft League.

His status grew today as the ace pitcher was named the winner of the 2052 SGCBL Draft League Most Valuable Player.

"I just want to pitch well and win games," he said. "The awards are nice though."

Østby's award-winning season saw him put up a 3-0 record through 6 starts, throwing 37 innings. He had 25 strikeouts with 13 walks and a 1.70 ERA. Opponents hit only .173 against him during the season.

He received 5 first place votes out of a possible 6. Jasmine Grimm of the Rhun Lakers finished second in voting, while Tulghu Headgobber of the Gondor Kings finished third.

Lorien Beats Khazad Dum in Championship

It was an emotional clubhouse for Lorien after they claimed the 2052 SGCBL Draft League crown with a 5-4 victory over Khazad Dum in the final game.

Lorien shortstop and tournament MVP Hsui-chen Monticelli was too choked up to speak with reporters after the game.

"He played his heart out and it showed," said Lorien manager Osvaldo Diz. "He has wanted this his entire career, so it's a special moment for him and for the rest of the team."
