  2. Andy says:

58% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.

Methinks there might be a problem with said test mi’ old mucker when the Queen’s best Mancunian English comes in at 58%.

  3. Solonor says:

I think there’s a lot of similarity between the “less proper” (if that’s the right term) British English and Southern dialect. I love this stuff! And from this Dialect Map of American English I found a HUGE treasure trove of dialect links.

  4. Busy Mom says:

    What can I say?

89% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors?

  5. Yankee or Dixie?

Here’s a fun little quiz, courtesy of Solonor. I came out with a 35% Yankee — A definitive Yankee. Quelle

  6. domino says:

49% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

    Dude-

This is one cool link, I loved this test!

  7. Ric The Schmuck says:

50% Yankee. Interesting stuff. Kinda fun.

  8. Susan says:

I was 71% Dixie and I don’t think CO is considered South!

  9. picklejuice says:

    35% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee.

    Yeee-haw!

    Wait a minute…erm…nevermind.

  10. Jen says:

I’m from England and still got 66% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!

  11. Andy says:

Less proper meaning Northern English? Who would have been the first on a boat to somewhere warm given half a chance?

That explains the annual Northern Englishman’s excursion to the Costa Del Tack.

So I believe there may be commonality.

  12. nefarious says:

Jeezz… 78% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score! No kidding. You would think I was born and raised in Texas or something. Oh… right… I guess I was.

  13. Yank or Dix . . . wait, that don’t sound right…

Here’s a neat little quiz from Solly and Scott. It claims that I’m: 87% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate

  14. spacebran says:

bran is 48% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.

i’m not sure what i expected of that. i notice that we westerners are curiously left out of the poll. maybe we need a ‘are you east of the Mississippi, or west?’ quiz.

  15. Y’all Dun Take This Test Now, Ya Hear?

I’ve never lived anywhere near the southern states. I lived in Arizona, which while “southern”, isn’t what they’re referring to. I don’t have an accent. My mom lives in Tennessee, and I talk to her quite a bit, but I…

  16. Kevin says:

61% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score! Well that’s pretty fair, I’m just way east of the Mississippi 🙂

  17. Jenn says:

91% (Dixie). Is General Lee your father?

Y’all need to do some rethinkin’ of that score down at the Beverage Barn, I reckon’!

Bin Laden Surrounded? & Other Stuff

Came to the Bus Garage today and saw some of you were waiting for a fresh tour. So here goes.

  19. Yankee or Dixie?

  20. dave says:

68% Dixie. I’ll buy that, but the quiz is flawed. The question about what you call a long sandwich doesn’t work for people in Louisiana, who would almost universally refer to it as a “po boy” (not a choice on the quiz).
