If I were a wee hobbit in the Shire (instead of an half-elf stuck in this godforsaken world), today would be Monday, the 19th day of the month of Rethe. And how do I know this? Well, the fine folk at The Shire-Reckoning tell me so! They came up with a scheme to reconcile the Julian calendar with the one described by J.R.R. Tolkein. That way, you can take any date on the Julian calendar and find out the corresponding Shire date.
What is more goose-pimply exciting, though, is that Su(zi)e the Divine has taken my little ramble about coming up with a script to generate the Shire date and turned it into reality. With the magic of PHP and Movable Type, you too can begin displaying the date in shire reckoning! I have already implemented it at the bottom of all my posts on the main index and the individual archives.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is no finer woman in England than Sue Bailey.
Duuude.. this rocks! (Once I figured the frickin’ thing out, of course.)
Fun with my site
Okay folks, some of you may have noticed that my site was unavailable for a few minutes a little while…
Couldn’t have done it without you, Baybee!
Too cool. 😉
I do think it’s funny, though, that people would implement this and not even bother to email me to say they’ve done it.
Is that rude, or am I just imagining things?
My apologies for neglecting to send you an email and/or give clear credit. No rudeness was intended; I set up the script and then ran off to do a thousand things.
You know what? Never mind. I don’t need the hassle.
