Egad. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown was first broadcast 40 years ago tonight.
Here’s the NPR story that reminded me of it this morning: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6388497
“You’ve heard of the fury of a woman scorned, haven’t you? Well, that’s nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of trick-or-treats.”
Truer words were never spoke.
Anytime someone near me uses the phrase “I got…”, I respond with “I got a rock.” 9 times out of 10 they don’t get it. Sigh… Youth these days.
I have this 21 year old girl working for me. Yesterday we got into a discussion about Miss Nancy and Romper Room. She never heard of it. Captain Kangaroo? Nope. Howdy Doody? Nope.
That wasn’t as bad as the other 20-something girl that works here. First I had to explain to her who The Rolling Stones were. Later she’s listening to the Sirius, and goes “what is this ‘Help’ that they’re singing about? How retarded.”
I asploded. The one customer in the store appreciated it, though… 🙂
Per YahooTV listings, they are running Charlie Brown for an hour. Isn’t that like 40 minutes of commerials then?
And I bet there will be no spooky Sarah Lee commercials either. 🙁
(wasn’t it Sarah Lee that always sponsered CB Halloween?)
^^Oh, it was Dolly Madison, not Sarah Lee.
