This has been an exciting week for a geek. I’m completely switched over to the new dot-com home of the Groovy Grove. I still can’t get over the fact that I have my own domain…it’s just too silly. Besides, it doesn’t seem right to be a dot-COM, unless I’m a company. I suppose I really should be Solonor.org, but that’ll have to wait.
I realize that everyone’s cousin-in-law has a domain now. But I’ll bet the conversation between the guys thinking up domain names was like this:
Joe: “We ought to reserve some namespace for individual whackos that might want their own domain…”
Frank: “Are you nuts?! Who the hell is gonna be able to afford a mainframe in their house?”
Joe: “I heard Sam say they’re gonna be like toasters someday.”
Frank: “Sam is on drugs.”
Joe: “Frank!”
Frank: “No…really…Sam’s on drugs…he’s in rehab. Anyway, that’s not the point. Besides what are we gonna call it? dot-whacko? We got enough problems with the dot-EDU domains.”
Joe: “I guess you’re right…”
Anyway, I’m off to Maine for my niece’s wedding! I won’t be blogging or anything else much from there, so I’ll talk at ya when I get back. Maybe by then I’ll be ready to tackle Movable Type.
