Meet Marvin the Paranoid PC

Got a new member of the family this week. We Christened him “Marvin” after both the android and the Martian. He joins Baldrick, Voltron, Daria, Mothra and the less-than-inspiringly-named “Paul_PC” in our rag-tag network of electronic friends.

Marvin replaced Baldrick on my desktop, and I couldn’t be happier. He’s just so fast! (Probably because he’s one of them fancy store-bought PC’s and not a Frankenstein of hand-me-down parts or something picked up on the cheap at a computer fair.)

Pre-Marvin, this was my routine for running baseball sims: Click to launch game, go make tea, watch a real baseball game, come back, load the data file, go have lunch, etc., etc. I just launched the baseball game in under 10 seconds! I thought there was something wrong with it!

I think I’m gonna like living in the 21st century.

And here I thought we were strange with Freya, Fragman, Tardis and MiniMac 🙂 I wonder if there are studies somewhere about what people call their networks/PCs and their personalities?

Mine are all named after Anime characters. Of course, with all the stuff we have on the network we’ve gone through three different show casts so far and are going to need yet another show when we get the next set of laptops.

BTW, I wish I had known you were getting a new computer! I would have recommended Maingear.com since they make awesome machines.
