I make light of things. That’s what I get paid the big bucks to do. (Anyone not paid up by the end of the month is getting their privileges revoked….you know who I’m talking about…)
Anyway, since I am currently in the position of simultaneously making light of the LGF / MSNBC brouhaha AND signing on as a LGF Supporter AND being critical of the anti-Idiotarian-namecalling-that-passes-for-debate on blogs like LGF, I thought I’d better clarify things…especially after reading wKenShow: Children Behave!
In the first place, I do not want anyone to equate my distaste for the way MSNBC mishandled (or used) the situation with LGF as an endorsement of the more hateful commenters at LGF. There are many reasonable, rational people over there that wish to engage in a serious debate about extremism and how Islam as a whole has reacted to its extremist elements. There are also several who greet any opposing viewpoint with foul language, namecalling, racism and bile. I view them with deep scorn and discount their opinions as Idiotic.
MSNBC (via Mr. Femia) used the situation to generate publicity. Period. Backing off and saying “I didn’t pick ’em! You did!” does not work for me. As I said before, it’s your outlet, Femia. You tell us what you believe and then ask for an opinion of that. Don’t dangle someone else’s site out over the shark pit and say, “Here boys! Come and get the tasty treat!”
What’s worse is the backlash against anil dash as being the ringleader of the “Kill LGF!” forces. Anil is a frequent commenter on LGF. To say he’s reviled would be like saying Jews think Hitler was just a grumpy old man. But the point is that Anil didn’t ask Femia to make him his scapegoat. Femia quotes some e-mails from people that don’t like LGF, then says “Former Best of Blogs blogger Anil Dash is one of LGF
Well done. Well said. Good luck with it, I’m afraid you might need it.
……mon….. nope, not gonna do it.
monk-….. nope.
I’ll behave. 🙂
