Maybe that’s the key…drink more!

For some reason, when the alarm went off at 6:30 this morning, I got right up and was/am wide awake. After last night’s company-sponsored festival of Christmas gluttony, I expected to crawl to the coffee pot, stare at it for 20 minutes wondering why it didn’t magically produce hot caffeinated wake-up juice, decide to force the issue and fumble around blindly throwing something I hoped were coffee and water into it, realize 5 minutes later that I’d forgotten to turn it on, then stagger back to bed. Ya know, like I do every other day.

But no! I’m as chipper as someone who’s just won 1st runner-up in Miss Chipper USA (damn you, Miss Iowa!).

Now, some would say that it’s because I got over six hours of sleep instead of my usual three. Poppycock! (No, actually, that’s probably it. I just like saying “poppycock”.)

So, why am I nervous?

The biggest flaw in this alcohol-induced slumber method (besides having to pay for tearing several shingles off the neighbor’s roof with my snoring) is the fact that my son apparently came in around 2am and took his PC to a friend’s house for a LAN party, and I heard nothing. Zip. Nada. I had to go and check his room to see that it was true. Meaning, of course, that the only things that stand between me and someone waltzing in and foxtrotting out with all our stuff in the middle of the night are our five attack cats.

I need a drink.

Surrender!

In honor of Michele’s review of Cheap Trick at Budokan here’s my version of Surrender.

Even better (like that’s possible), I found a video of a version of John Lennon’s “I’m Losing You” with Cheap Trick as the band. They apparently worked on a few tracks of Double Fantasy before Yoko kicked them out. I think this version is way better than what wound up on that album, but it is on the John Lennon Anthology album.

Experiment over

OK, no more Lifestream daily digests. That’s just too much nonsensical rambling for even my tastes.

Some say his best days are behind him, but statistics can be misleading…

You were there before all these “tourist fans” started showing up with their pink Red Sox caps and their “Big Papi” jerseys even though they’ve never set foot in New England.

You were there before winning was taken for granted (and you never will do so).

You were there when a Fenway crowd applauded an opposing player’s brilliant catch, because “Boston crowds are the most knowledgeable in baseball.” (Likewise, you’d never, ever, interfere with a catch in the stands…by a Sox player.)

You know there is no such person as “Bucky Dent”. You know his middle name starts with an “F”.

Thus, for you, the only plausible way to be buried is in a Red Sox casket

Happy Turkey (or whatever barnyard animal you choose to worship) Day!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and if you are lucky enough to get the next four days off, kick back and relax with friends and family (or just by yourself if that’s your thing).

If you want some web-based entertainment this weekend, why don’t you try checking out Michele’s new insane project, this is not pitchfork, in which she reviews the entirety of her music collection. Considering how old she is, that’s gotta be a crap-load of crap!

So far, I’ve weighed in on a bunch of the albums, mocking her tastes and pointing out all the stuff we used to play as Revolver. It’s that type of useful reporting that makes the internets the premier source of stuff you never needed to know.

Seriously, writing this stuff in a vaccuum (even one you created) isn’t nearly as much fun as interacting with the rest of the folks in mom’s basement. So, head on over and toss in your two cents.

Ok, so maybe ‘cool’ is a relative term…

In honor of the 45th anniversary of the first broadcast of Doctor Who, the coolest sci-fi web site presents a list of the 45 Coolest Moments in Doctor Who’s History (many with video clips).

27) That final speech, in “Survival.”

With the show finally being canceled in 1989, the final episode ends with a nice little tacked-on speech. “There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea’s asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there’s danger, somewhere there’s injustice, somewhere else the tea’s getting cold. Come on, Ace. We’ve got work to do. “
