Same to you, Florida Amendment 2!

And similar constitutional amendments and discriminatory laws in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming!

Sometimes it’s not worth the trouble to write down your own thoughts on a subject, when someone else has said exactly what you would have said anyway. So…

What he said!

The problem with that video… the people who need to hear that wouldn’t listen. Because the man who is saying is named Olberman. And that, to the far right, is a BAD thing. Listen to the far right drivel the last several weeks, and anyone who utters that mans name does so with extra amounts of venom. Disdain.

It is a damn shame. A damn shame that folks who love each other can’t legally share it. A damn shame we have to keep bickering about it. And a damn shame that an eloquent speech like that won’t ever be heard by the people who need to hear it the most.

I am embarrassed by my fellow Americans, and my fellow man. At least some of them.

There will be a non-violent protest at Orlando City Hall this Saturday — it’s not to protest the City of Orlando; they’re very progressive — it’s to protest Amendment 2, Prop 8 and all the other hateful, bigoted, discriminatory legislation that was passed this election cycle.

It’s actually a Day of Protest nationwide.

Thanks for all the support — it feels good to know there are great folks like you, Solly, and your readers out here. 🙂

Of course I’m appalled by what my brethren have done to undermine the rights of gay people. I’ve spoken out about it to anyone who will listen, and have offended a good many here in the city of Salt. I’m not sorry for offending anyone.

We have a family reunion coming up and I’m dreading it, because I know I just can’t keep my mouth shut on this one. I’ll go in with the knowledge that my aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins donated money and time to the hate-mongering that has caused and contributed to all the gay marriage bans. This is a hard pill to swallow. I’m not gay, but I take this personally.

So, if my family ends up roasting me on a spit, please remember to water the flowers on my blog, and feed my Facebook pet for me, k?

re: Ken Olbermann’s speech. Maybe I agree with him, but I don’t like watching him. He stoops to using the tactics of the right-wing pundits. He uses emotionality when he should be bringing us back toward fair and balanced journalism. It’s all in the language he uses, and the presentation. Polarization is a bad, bad thing.

I hope you don’t mind – I had to post about this after watching the video and I linked back to this post. This is so great.

Came here via Empress and I am glad I did. I’m English, so in a way it doesn’t impact on us … except, of course, yes it does!! This is about basic human rights. Now, I’m not gay, and no-one in my immediate family is gay, but I have a gay cousin and a gay nephew. One is a lovely guy, one is a piece of s**t – but that’s not because he’s gay. Gay has nothing to do with it.

I’m a little ambivalent on the subject of children being born into gay households, but gay marriage? Come on!! Do we live in the dark ages? Why the heck should they not be allowed equality with the rest of us? At the moment partners have no rights, not even as next of kin in hospital situations.

As to the children … well, yes, I do have misgivings, but it’s not my place to judge.

And surely, two loving gay people are better than a children’s home.
